Cornelius Mixon
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 7100 a few days ago. I have Icons on my desktop like: Itunes, Google Chome, and, FireFox, but for some reason some items are not showing up on the desktop. Like files I download and save to the destop and when I unrar a file to the desktop the unrared file in not on the desktop. But they are visible if I go into "Windows Explorer" and to "my desktop" the files are a there. How do I fix this? Is anyone else having this problem? Have you tried right-clicking the Desktop and choosing View -> Show Desktop Icons? I had this problem duing the beta - sometimes the Show Desktop Icons would turn off. Cornelius Mixon
Thx for the reply I tried that and it didn't work. I have some icons on my desktop but some files are not showing.
gescom
I'm using Windows 7 RC1 and I'm experiencing the same problem. I can see some icons/shortcuts on the desktop, but whenever I try to save or copy some files to the desktop it disappears (though I can see them in the Windows Explorer view of the desktop). I've noticed when I press F5 to refresh the desktop I can see these hidden files flash quickly before disappearing. I can't find a solution anywhere. It almost seems like some sort of security feature, but I cannot figure it out.
kimsland
I wonder if the icons are off the side of the screen I first noticed this when there were thousands of (not required) icons on a users Desktop, but when deleting them, others still existed but could not be seen. All I needed to do (other than just using explorer of course) is just right click on Desktop and align icons automatically, and there came the next lot on the Desktop. Other than that, try running a full scan with your updated Antivirus software, and also a malware removal program as well.
gescom
Tried out auto-arrange and it seems to work. Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't thought to try it. It's a pretty new install and I'm running it from a laptop hooked up to a larger monitor for dual screens. I think the dual monitor setup may be part of the problem. HappyAndyK
Check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295650 . Its for XP, but this Kellys Korner fix may help you. Create a system restore point first, please.
ilike2burnthing
Start task manager, right click explorer.exe in processes and end process tree. If explorer does not restart, go to file>new task (run...) type 'explorer' and press enter. This should show reset your desktop.
