kyller
hi the question is the title of the topic: is necessary to install the latest directx 9.0c redistributable in windows 7 rc1?
Sethos
If you want to play DX9 titles, yes.
CPressland
Not 100% necessary, no, but some Games may benefit from it. I found Battlefield 2 to run better after applying the 'update' as did most Source based games.
jimbo11883
Even though DirectX 9 is installed in Windows 7, it seems that Microsoft always leaves out the extensions (D3DX9_##.dll) from the OS install. They may be required by new games. So it's always best to get the latest DX9 SDK Redist.

The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2009 Use the web updater. All it's going to download is some small updates, you'll end up using less space and taking less time.
kyller
Use the web updater. All it's going to download is some small updates, you'll end up using less space and taking less time. but it will download all 95mb of the redistributable, right? or less? my connection is 2mb, not very fast :(
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2009 Less. Vista and Win7 already come with DX9 (DX9ex, so normal DX9 isn't actually needed), you just need to download the small changes between the release builds and the current update (MS release an update for the stuff fairly often)
freakyfriday
win7 rc has dx11 in it. no need to update to dx9
iZoom
I beg to differ. I just visted the DirectX website and it had to d/l 35.8mb of updates. As someone already pointed out, I think the framework is installed, but the small updates are left out of each install of the OS.
hdood
It tends to be the various support libraries like D3DX you have to install, since they aren't bundled with the OS.
Ci7
win7 rc has dx11 in it. no need to update to dx9 DX11 has no relation with DX9 DX11 is just an update for DX10 which is not compatible with DX9
Lord Zog
win7 rc has dx11 in it. no need to update to dx9 Even tho it has DX 11, ya still need to update DX9 as its used in most, if not ALL games still. Even in Vista's case, DX10 was updated with SP1, but DX9 wasn't, and is upgradeable using the web-installer or the redistributable from March 2009.. Michael S
In my opinion, if you don't play DX9 games such as rFactor (I remembered this game will guide you to install DX9c on Vista) there's no need to install DX9.0c Redistributable at all.
Southern Patriot
Of all the moronic things Microsoft has done in the past with updates, this has to take the cake as the most illogical from the standpoint of an average user.
Pikey
It's not just games .. I use Nero 7 and that always asks to update with some DirectX9 bits, which is bundled in the installer.
ViperAFK
You should always update dx9 if you play games.
