Pablo2008jedi
Hey all, I installed Win7 x86 RC this weekend, clean install, on my home PC and then stuck all the usual stuff on, including AVG AV (the free one). So I just started using my PC as normal, watching a video via VLC and browsing the web, getting some apps. I noticed that after downloading AVG kicks in and scans the file (as normal) but then my video started to stutter, this also happened while installing stuff. I checked taskmgr and found that the AVG scanner was using 99% cpu, it never did this in Vista x86. So anyone else having trouble with AVG on Win7 32Bit? TEX4S
OK - I have to say it - Why on earth did you dirty a nice new install of Win7 with that crap ? Get rid of it - get the beta of Kaspersky's Win7 version and dont look back. AVG sucks
Pablo2008jedi
lol, I've used AVG for years, and never had any problems. If you can point out how "crap" it is I will consider changing, but its never gave me any problems.

I think if you talk to most people "in the trenches" you will see it isnt very ideal. It is the reason for a lot of the problems people have (from what Ive seen/heard) It may not be fair to compare a free product to something which isnt - but in your case - Kaspersky is free - take advantage of it - you will be glad you did - I wouldnt be surprised that you switched your Vista AV over to KAV as well. I think if you talk to most techs that have to deal with this kinda stuff everyday - they will all tell you AVG sucks - free version or not. terminx
AVG used to be really good... and then that abomination known as version 8 came along. After years of use, I think I ditched AVG about a week after 8.x came out. I'm liking Avira AntiVir a lot now, at least after setting up a software restriction group policy to get rid of those annoying nag screens it throws up every time you update the definitions. :p
ATLien_0
its a bug with the updater on AVG, my Windows 7 does this as well with AVG installed
gregrocker
It's simple, since the last version came out AVG is bloatware. The lightest and most effective free anti-virus is now Avast home edition. Once it's installed and your run first boot scan, no regular scan is needed, since nothing gets in unless you turn it off. It never slows anything down or make itself noticed AT ALL. tom01
Nah. Antivir has a much better detection rate and a smaller memory footprint. +1 Avira is consistently the best AV atm. I even found a free 6month trial y/d :D
techbeck
Why on earth did you dirty a nice new install of Win7 with that crap ? So thats why my family and friends all use it and havnt had a virus in several years...hmmm, ok... Windows 7 isnt even out yet and some companies are not up to speed. This is probably a bug with the current version of AVG and Win7. Avira is good and I DLed a demo...only annoying part is that every time it updates you get a popup msg. You can disable it, but have to do a few things...just a PITA. If someone made an automated EXE or something to disable the ads, I would probably use it. Tried AVAST on a test system for about a month. System started having problems and found a bunch of trojans all over the place. Never going to use AVAST again and glad I didnt load it on a main good system.

Why would anyone pay for an antivirus when there are outstanding free versions available like Avast? Oh, yeah, some people have money to waste. For years, MS tech support has only recommended Avast and AVG for a reason, and it doesn't have to do with them making any money.
UncleSpellbinder
I've used Avast for several years now. Never a virus. Always clean. As far as being free. Some have said "you get what you pay for". Well in this case, you get the functionality of many paid anti virus apps. And among the numerous AV's available, Avast has an impeccable reputation - free or paid. As I said I used AVG for years, it was recommended by a few techies then. I am unaware of the bloat thats in it, need to dig about more on that. TEX4S
well I think this thread has kinda come to a conclusion and the OP knows what to do - but I will end with this and its along the same lines as what others have posted in here. @ work myself and my technicians tell clients to get rid of whatever crap they have which is the reason for the service call (AVG8, Norton anything, McAfee anything, etc...) and get Kaspersky AV, not Kaspersky Internet Security. If they complain about the price - wel tell them to install Avast. We used to support NOD32 but the latest major update of theirs went to crap IMO if one has a little common sense, Kaspersky AV (with the correct settings) Malwarebytes, and Firefox - they are about as secure as they can get.
