xanathar
Hi, I've installed the Virtual PC update and the Windows XP VHD, and started the Virtual XP setup. The "setting up for first use" step went fine, and just at the end of the "enabling integration features" step, this error message did show up: I uninstalled everything and repeated it several times, same result. I re-enabled all services that I disabled before which I don't generally use. Traced with Russinovich's Process Monitor, and there was nothing useful, only some reads and writes to the VHD file. Even tried to connect to it using Remote Desktop with the credentials saved in Control Panel - Credential Manager. Downloaded everything today from the official web site and tried all the steps again, no luck. Also nothing critical in the Event Viewer (under Application and Service logs\Microsoft\Windows\Virtual PC), but this warning: "Virtual PC Integration Components on 'Virtual Windows XP' is out of date. Please update to the latest version of Virtual PC Integration Components.". I think what we have is already the latest version. Anyone else getting the same error message? Or does anyone know how to get some debug output from it? FYI, I'm using Windows 7 x64 7100, have an Intel T7400 processor with virtualization enabled, and did an update over build 7000. Thanks. Looks like you've found a bug with an update bug, we've got a post about bugs from upgrading somewhere.
xanathar
Yes, a clean install will probably solve this issue. I think I'll wait a little to hear from other people who did an upgrade as well.

What are you trying to figure out? Upgrading from Windows 7000 to 7100 RC is not a supported scenario, even if you somehow found a workaround or a genuine bug, it's not going to be reproducible. xanathar
You're right. It is also possible that it is not an upgrade bug, but something which is caused by an certain configuration, who knows. Just wanted to ask if someone else saw this. Clean install is sadly not an option right now (because of some WMP licenses -- and limited time :) ) Thanks to all. kingbob
Not an upgrade bug, having the same issue here on a clean install with the same exact error message. :(
Lamp Post
I upgraded from 7077 -> 7100, and had no issues with the install.
xanathar
Well, somehow, I tried it with another account password, and now it installs and runs correctly.
