Southern Patriot
Even if you have a recent machine, and Securable tells you that virtualization is enabled on your processor, you might still not be able to run XP Mode in Windows 7. Some systems simply will NOT support it, even if the processor does! I found this out the hard way when trying to get it running on my desktop. I have the absolute latest available BIOS update (only a couple of months old), my processor supports virtualization, and according to my BIOS screen it is enabled. But guess what? Still no joy! (see this thread for proof: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=767578 ) Microsoft obviously knows this can be a problem, otherwise they wouldn't have posted this page linked to the Virtual PC download page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-p...igure-bios.aspx Fortunately, they link to tools that acutally accurately report if virtualization will work. How to confirm your PC can run Windows XP ModeAlthough OEMs have been shipping hardware virtualization in PCs for three years, hardware virtualization is not available in all PCs — so even if your PC is new, it may not have hardware virtualization. Additionally, those PCs with hardware virtualization have it turned off by default, so you will need to turn on the hardware virtualization capability before you can use it. Southern Patriot
Again, even if your processor does, that is no guarantee that your motherboard and/or BIOS will properly support it. Even (as in my case) if your board SAYS it is enabled, it might not be.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2009 It's kinda funny how some new systems still don't support this. My motherboard and CPU are a few years old, and they support VT and such perfectly (And there's nothing special about them, mid range consumer products)
