Updates for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 RC

Recommended Posts

Microsoft have released 2 updates for IE8 through Windows Update.

Update 1 KB970858 - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=970858

As we described on Monday, the IE8 in Windows 7 RC includes additional tab "hang" reporting functionality. This functionality relies on a timer threshold to determine when a tab might be unresponsive. This threshold was calibrated based on data from internal Microsoft users.

As we began to look at data coming in from real-world Win7 RC users, we noticed that some users are being prompted to recover from hung tabs more frequently than some would like. We stated on Monday that if the data suggests that too many users are being prompted too frequently that we would publish an update to resolve the issue.

Based on the data we've seen so far, today we are publishing an update that turns off the additional tab hang reporting in Win7.

The upside here is that we now have a wealth of data about the real issues that users encounter every day, and we are going to continue to work hard to address responsiveness issues up until and after Win7 RTM.

Update 2 KB969487 - http://support.microsoft.com/KB/969497

An update for the Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View list that is dated May 5, 2009 is available. This Compatibility View list update makes Web sites that are designed for older browsers look better in Internet Explorer 8. When you install Internet Explorer 8, you can decide whether the sites that you visit should be displayed in Compatibility View. After you install this item, you may have to restart Internet Explorer.

Note Sites that appear on the Compatibility View list are sites for which other users clicked the Compatibility View button. This list updates automatically and helps users have a better experience with Web sites that are not yet updated for Internet Explorer 8

I've just downloaded these through Windows Update and they require a restart.

Just got a notification pop-up from Windows Update. Updated and restarted. Not sure why though. I've not used IE in nearly 3 years. Completest I guess.

Its nice to be fully updated, or is that just my OCD! :)

Update: Tabs load up quicker for me now and it doesn't take as long for webpages to appear.

Is this just for Windows 7 or for XP and Vista also. I'm on XP and haven't got the Compatablity View update yet.

It's not the same version. So in win7, the built-in internet explorer not that version, like for vista or xp. (So this could be an excuse for why it's not updating)

[sorry for my bad english]
