codenamepenryn
I downloaded and installed the Virtual PC Beta, then I've downloaded and Installed the Windows XP Setup files. I open the configuration window, i create a new account, clicked on auto-updates, and created a new VHD. At this point, the window just closes. I can't get to this point: http://www.winsupersite.com/images/win7/xpmode_7077_09.jpg Any ideas on whats wrong?
Sora
Is virtualization enabled in your BIOS?
Litespeed
If virtualization is disabled you won't even get that far.
xanathar
Do you see any errors in Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Virtual PC -> Admin?
codenamepenryn
I have 310 events in there. Most of them are information, with a few errors in between. All of the errors say: The virtual hard disk 'C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Virtual Machines\Windows XP\Virtual Windows XP.vhd' could not be created. The file could not be written. xanathar
It is highly possible that this is the error message you are looking for, because the point you didn't reach is the virtual hard disk file creation. According to your configuration (posted in the experience index thread), you have a lot of free disk space. By the way, it is really odd that the file is located under %userprofile%\Documents\My Virtual Machines. On my computer, it is created in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines. One more suggestion: Note the timestamp for the error in the event viewer and look for other errors at this time - for example for possible filesystem errors, in these locations: - Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative events - Event Viewer -> Overview and Summary (to open this, click the first line on the left tree) -> Under "Summary of administrative events" -> Right click "Audit failure" and select "View all instances of this event"
Raa
Definately sounds like a file permissions problem. If you're not out of space, possibly a bad hard drive?

Also, i tried creating a VHD on my secondary HDD, and it still won't work. Nevermind, i fixed it, i right clicked Windows XP, and clicked run as administrator.
