RC slower than the Beta?

Recommended Posts

I'm not trying to start a war, but I want peoples' honest opinions. Do you find the Beta (Build 7000) faster or the RC (Build 7100) faster?

Personally, it seems like the Beta ran much better on my older, secondary computer than the RC does on it now. Any ideas?

Any ideas? Yeah give it a couple of days and you should be fine. Other than that get an new computer.

Honestly I don't see much of a difference; but if I had to vote, I would say it's slightly faster than the beta; it's a fact that it uses 10% less RAM for me though.

On an old P4 2.2GHz, Win7 RC is noticable faster than beta 7000. It is actually very similar to 7077 or 7068.

For anyone moving from 7000 to 7100, there should be an obvious boost in speed and responsive. But for those of us who have been using recent leaked builds just before RC, the performance improvement is quite minimal aside for more stability and reliability.

Definitely faster for me, particularly regarding things like the smoothness of the superbar thumbnail animations which are much smoother

Thanks guys. And really, I do actually have a newer computer (but it doesn't get to experience the Win 7 goodness until RTM...) :D

Perhaps it deserves a few more days of settling in.

Nope. Even Office 2007 is snappier than ever. I installed SP2 for Office on both test systems.

That has no bearing on Win7. Many people have stated that SP2 for Office 2007 indeed made Office faster, regardless of O/S.

For the record, I've seen multiple reports and visibly seen 7100 to be faster than previous builds. :)

I ran both the Beta and the RC within VMWare Fusion. The Beta 1 build was incredibly fast compared to Vista, and in my opinion the RC build is even faster. MS is definitely on the right track this time around.

Well Microsoft couldn't exactly afford to put out another operating system as widely criticized as Vista.

I meant to say, Office 2007 with SP2 seems faster on RC than on Beta.

RC seems about the same as 7068 (last build I tried on my main machine). At this point I have various builds installed on computers with a vast range of specs. Q6600/8GB, AXP4200/4GB, A643200/2GB, CoreDuo 1.6/1GB and finally my newest the touchsmart tx2z with 4 GB. I general the only problem with performance I have seen are with office 2k7 sp2 when using onenote. Pages with a lot of drawing don't seem snappy.

One other minor glitch is that the WDDM 1.1 drivers from ATI fail when returning from sleep. Don't really know how to fix those except roll back to WDDM 1.0 drivers from ATI.
