wguimb
@Jorkand, I agree with the assessment about 7068 and with 7077, performance change is minimal IMHO. I think we will have some solid 1.1 display chip drivers shortly or very near RTM.
UncleSpellbinder
I'll agree that RC is about the same for me as 7068 and 7077. But as far as official beta 7000....RC is much faster, at least in my case.
winlonghorn
Thanks guys. And really, I do actually have a newer computer (but it doesn't get to experience the Win 7 goodness until RTM...) :D Perhaps it deserves a few more days of settling in. Did you clean install or upgrade? That makes a difference for sure. :)
Mike415
Not sure about the beta, but I think 7077 ( think it was this one) was the fastest for me.
Strike X
lol you need to backup your evidence that RC is faster than beta. show us benchmark, etc.
UncleSpellbinder
lol you need to backup your evidence that RC is faster than beta.show us benchmark, etc. Let's see. Beta is old, hasn't been installed for a LONG time. I'm just going by personal experience and memory. Knowing for a fact that 7048 was speedier for me than 7000 and 7068/7077 felt faster than 7048. No benchmarks - just my personal experience. LOL
Argi
I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet but if you just installed the RC after having the beta installed for a while, it'll have to learn which applications you run often to determine what to prefetch. After a week it should be just as speedy.
Satchmo Bevins
I read the minimum requirements for 64-bit was 2 gb, so I'm running that right now & it seems as perky as any 32-bit version I've run. XPM installed with no troubles, works great, nice & sparky except for the switch to/from full screen. So far, it's been fun.
RvXtm
feels the same as 7077 for me ... but VS the beta , yes it is a little faster. (Old pentium 4 guy here)
qdave
i found that after a week of use it became much slower..tasks like opening new ie window or tab takes few seconds longer. i guess 1 ram is not enough :(
chrisj1968
naw, it's snappy and fast with my 3GB
_dandy_
I've run both on my Acer Aspire One netbook (1GB RAM only), and with as little RAM to go around, I don't remember the beta being as slow as the RC seems to be. I don't have any hard numbers to back this up with however. Given a machine with more RAM however, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the RC ran better than the beta. 08993
7 seems to be the same as Vista as in it takes a few days to settle down. I've had 7100 installed for a week now and it's flying.
Jygoro
I jumped from beta to RC. RC definetiliy is faster in my 5 years old PC.
MrChuang
I find my old Vista SP1 x64 configuration ran a lot better than the Windows 7 RC though I am still using 7. I do see Windows 7 is a great improvement on Vista though Vista is not as bad as the media makes it sound. Back to on topic I find the RC a small improvement from the Beta in terms of speed
jakem1
I can't say there's much difference between Vista, 7 Beta and 7 RC. They are all really snappy on my laptop. However, all the nice little UI improvements make 7 easier (and thus faster) to use just as Vista was easier to use than XP.
dcoaster
Just FYI, it was a clean install for both 7000 and 7100.
tonyunreal
RC is definitely faster than beta for me, and way more responsive. 64-bit version running on Athlon64 X2 TK-57 with 4GB of ram.
neufuse Veteran Posted May 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2009 I sware every time windows goes from Beta to RC there is someone who says "it seems slower!" actually it should be faster as they removed debugging code and you are now getting what will be final releasable code... it works faster for me then it was in the beta stage

But since I am using a relatively old secondary computer from around 2001, my view may be different. Most people seem like they are using very new machines so that may be a cause for different views. Max Veteran Posted May 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2009 7100 x64 was definately much slower than 7000 x86. I will probably have to try the RC in Virtual PC instead of VMware.

X@vier
The RC is definitely faster than beta but it doesn't run as well as the beta did on my macbook :( and on my mac pro even worst but my main computer (dell) is loving win7 :D ~X
rakeshishere
I too feel the same. The beta build was much better than RC for me ;)
trek
RC seems to be a bit faster than the beta for me, but the annoying stutter as you hit the 'close' button on a glass window is still there.
