Faster performance after shut down when compared to hibernate

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or does win 7 peform better after a full shutdown and turn on when compared to using hibernate? I recently shutdown (as opposed to sleep or hibernate) and it's running quicker than before. This includes all the things I had open when I hibernated.

Its somewhat normal behavior....with hibernating, you have everything loaded into memory that was in there before the hibernation, even if you never loaded it after the hibernation. With a shutdown you get a fresh boot with only what has been loaded since the bootup, loaded into your memory (that is, excluding any prefetching).

Other than that though I would have to agree.....a few days ago my TF2 after the first hibernation and any time afterwards loaded extremely slow......taking at least twice as long to boot up and twice as long to join a server. If I reboot my computer (or shutdown and boot up at a later time) it would load TF2 much faster than before and connect to servers much faster. Here lately though (since yesterday or so) hibernating doesnt seem to affect TF2's bootup time, or at least not as bad as it did a few days ago.
