Grunt
Just installed Public RC yesterday. Looks lush! However, some of the software i'd normally add doesn't work with win7 and i've only just started looking for alternatives / "fixes" to get these working. -Ultramon 3.0.4 - doesn't work. People on the forums claim to have registry fixes but aren't perfect. Alt: DisplayFusion - works with Win7 but limited functionality. Doesn't look great but the author is actively pushing forward to support win7. -Songbird - no problems found at this time -Firefox - no problems found at this time -Flash player for Firefox - Downloaded the setup for Vista and it seems to be working alright. No Win7 specific package available. -Pidgin 2.5.5 - no problems found at this time will update with more later. didn't have much time last night to get anything other than above installed. Please add your own :) Edited May 6, 2009 by Grunt

tonyunreal
Most softwares that don't come with bundled/required drivers should be running fine on windows 7. As for anti-virus software, my recommendation would be ESET Nod32 4.0. It has nearly no impact on system performance, updates very frequently, and is fully compatible with win7 32-bit/64-bit. UncleSpellbinder
The rule of thumb seems to be that if it works in Vista it will work in 7. There will, of course, be the occasional exception to the rule. Though all apps I had installed in Vista are working 100% in 7 RC. As for an AV, Avast Home Edition is working perfectly. I recommend it highly. Grunt
Just found this forum - seems well occupied by folks. http://www.sevenforums.com/software/ And theres a huge thread about Punkbuster - none of the suggested "fixes" work for sure at this time. After I installed Windows 7, UltraMon was the first program I tried it install. Hopefully a new version comes out soon. Just found this link regarding UltraMon. protocol7
Yeah a not-working list would be shorter. Pretty much everything I've installed is working here (software and drivers). Comodo runs fine, but the recent builds have DPC issues which haven't been fixed yet. It's seems to be a general problem with the firewall since v3.5, nothing specific to 7. I tried downgrading to 3.5 (using Vista compatibility mode) but while it installed without error, I noticed it wasn't actually filtering anything. The only thing that's stubbornly refusing to work here is *drumroll* Punkbuster. But everything that can be said about that already has. Using Avira Antivirus here without any issues. BTW, as regards the "Software to avoid" list on sevenforums, Netlimiter 1.3 runs fine here in 7100 x64. I downgraded it a long time back when I found out that 2.0 was behind the occasional tcpip.sys BSODs I was getting in XP. Just run it as admin when it's first installed to set preferences and your registration data.
