koftheworld
I bought a 360 in January and it's been great for gaming and for netflix streaming. My question is in regards to streaming my dvd collection through the 360. What is the best format/easiest to use to convert the dvds to? I already own a license for DVDFab Platinum and would be streaming from Windows 7 RC. Thanks! Edited May 6, 2009 by koftheworld
Ricardo Gil
DivX/xVid will probably do.
Kushan
DivX/Xvid will definitely be the easiest and most compatible to stream. The 360 also supports MP4/h.264, but I'm not sure how well WMP streams this. Worth trying out, I suppose.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 6, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted May 6, 2009 I rip all my DVDs to h264 with AC3, but I think the 360 will have issues with AC3. Maybe just do AAC instead? (If you don't have a sound system it won't matter if it's just 2 channel). These processes require encoding, I know PS3MS will stream DVD ISOs/VOBs to the PS3 but I don't think it works on the 360? (PS3MS does support the 360, I mean these specific features). Someone could give it a go though? Or I'll just go try it myself and report back. I have a powerful rig but so I do just encode everything, playing ISOs or VOBs isn't something I really do, although it saves time.
BajiRav
Your best bet is to use Media Center Extender with Windows 7 RC. It supports most common formats (Xvid, Divx, AVCHD). If you are using dashboard with WMP12 sharing, then WMP12 is supposed to transcode unsupported files on the fly but I haven't tried it personally.
