Windows 7 Can't Connect to Internet

Recommended Posts

Just downloaded and installed the RC. But, it can't connect to the Internet for whatever reason. It works fine in XP. And my ISP is Cox, and I connect to the Internet via a modem.

Help please?

Check device manager, are your network adapter drivers installed?

Under other devices I see a USB Cable Modem which needs it's drivers installed. I think this is my Internet modem, so how do I get drivers for it?

Check the manufacturer's website, what type of modem is it? And do you have to connect via usb? Win 7 picked up my enet adapters right away.

ISP: Cox Communications

The modem says:

There should be a driver disk/CD included with the modem. Even if the disk/CD dates back to XP, it's a starting place.

I just downloaded a vista driver pack and another driver for my modem. Added it onto a flash drive and will install on Windows 7.

Should I install the vista drivers?

Do you have the modem connected to your computer with a usb cable? if you have a network card in your computer i would use an ethernet cable instead, if not the use the vista drivers, make sure you run the driver setup in compatability mode

The drivers I PM'd you about were vista drivers, they should work in 7.

Alright. Downloaded those, and I've moved them to Windows 7.

However, there is no .exe or something that windows will run to install the drivers.

There is an .exe that says 'remove, but I don't think that's what we want.

They won't be in exe form. Go back to device manager, select the device and "update driver" and browse to the driver location.

Actually, i take that back, the drivers i sent you are in an executable file, they should just install when you open them...

It worked! Thanks mate.

Sad thing was that I was loving Windows 7 even without the Internet.:p
