ozgeek
I had ffdshow on the previous installs but I am suspicious that it might have been causing some problems. Are there any media codec packs that is compatable with Windows 7 along with a media player?

Arkose
Note that CCCP includes the "tryout" branch of ffdshow (although of course you deselect it during installation). If you have been using a non-tryout version (which haven't been updated in quite some time) you should certainly try the new one.

Sethos
Use CCCP, as mentioned above - One of the best codec packs out there, don't go with those randoms never-heard-of packs, they tend to screw up systems.

I have CCCP installed only ! Any ideas ?

Preppy Veteran Posted May 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 7, 2009 ACE Mega CodecS Pack v6.03As already noted, this is an accidentally retarded suggestion.ACE is the ABSOLUTE WORST codec pack. It includes: * Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher - hijacks IAMStreamSwitch but implements it wrong so it'll crash every time * Voxware MetaSound - does a double memory free so will randomly crash any application calling ACMEnumerate. Vista SP1 disables this codec it's so bad * DivX 5.2 - the old broken version that has NULL pointer crashes * 2004 FFDShow - much known brokenness which is why there's been new versions for five years now * Indeo Audio Codec - blows up on MPEG2 pin enumeration, which means that MPEG2-aware DirectShow apps such as DVDMaker will stop working. Can we quit suggesting this garbage? I'm sorry the owners don't have enough pride to have tested their warez originally nor to have pulled that sorry sack from the net, but come on- that's been broken for five years now. Get in the game, man. lol
aristofeles
I found out that on 7 all I had to install was the core avc (for mkv). And vobsub for subtitles. Any other video I have just played right from the start, including divx, xvid and mov. Even ac3 audio was decoded without any 3rd party codec :)
GusValentine
Has anyone ever tried the 64-bit Matroska splitter from the MPC/MPC HC projects?

ozgeek
Thanks for the CCCP recommendation. It works great. Others: I have a DVD video camera that records into files in VOB format. I tried to play it in WMP but it won't play it. How about a MOV player? My digital still camera records videos in that format.
Preppy Veteran Posted May 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 8, 2009 Do the MOVs work fine in WMP? Windows 7 RC has MPEG4-MOV support. What happens when you try to play the VOB in WMP? Both those should generally work by default AFAIA.
