Windows 7 64bit RC & NIS 2009

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am having a problem with Windows 7 64bit and Norton Internet Security 2009 and would like to know if there is a fix for it?

I was previouslly running Windows 7 32bit RC and NIS 2009 wouldnot work correctly so I installed AVAST Home Edition and that worked fine.

I am now trying out Windows 7 64bit RC and had previously read in this forum, that NIS 2009 worked fine, so I have just installed it without any real problems.

However, when I ran Liveupdate a few minutes ago, around 28MB of updates were downloaded and all but one of the updates installed without problems. An update called "Norton 2009 Virus Definitions X64", failed and the message is shown below:

Norton 2009 Virus Definitions X64

Norton AntiVirus Definitions

Status: Failed to complete

Update Criticality: Recommended

I have tried LiveUpdate twice now and each time, I get the same error. Have any other user's who have installed Windows 7 64bit with NIS 2009, experienced the same problem and if so, is there any resolution to it?

BTW, Norton reports that the system is "SECURE" and Windows reports that Norton informs it that it is up to date and virus scanning is on.

I would like to resolve this but if that's not possible, I may just install free Avast Home Edition which worked very well, without problems.

Regards

Dave

Hi Radish

Thanks for your reply and the Symantec URL. :)

I went to the link but the site is undergoing maintenance and will be available shortly - so it says.

The Windows 7 version is a 14 day trial version and assuming it works without problems, what happens after 14 days - install again I suppose?

My NIS 2009 subscription is for a year and looking at the error message (Norton 2009 Virus Definitions X64), the problem might be that I'm running the 64bit version of Windows 7 RC?

Regards

Dave

You'll get a trial product key in your e-mail before downloading the product, you can also use your existing subscription :)

Hi Tyke

I'm assuming that you installed the Windows 7 RC 7100 and if so, are you using NIS 2009 and when you used Live Update, did all of the updates install?

I can't figure that out.

Yes I have two machines with RC 7100 installed. I just installed NIS 2009 on both and ran Live Update, no problems.

everything working fine here. sounds like you got a system specific problem. I am using NIS2009 since the beta without problems on 64bit OS. currently running it on two 7100 64 bit PCs.
