How to disable auto search as you type?

Recommended Posts

I hate this automatic search as you type in Win 7. I think its the same as Vista as well. I've always used a 3rd party search tool so not familiar with how to configure or disable Windows search.

I'm installing W7 RC for my bro and I think he wants to keep Win search, but I want to disable the automated search as you type function. It sucks and I'll tell you why. It interrupts my goddam typing as I type in a search. Infuriating if I'm in a hurry, it doesnt save me time it wastes my time as I keep getting interrupted as I type! And why the hell would it automatically begin seaching from the first damn letter?! Its wearing out my hard drives. Most logical thing to disable it was to look for it in Win7's Help/Support. It doesnt mention it, only indexing options which I have no problem with.

I know theres a solution, dont know why MS doesnt want you to easily know about it or disable it. If it cant be disabled, just let me know, I'll install a 3rd party app. Thank you.

Hmm, I cant seem to repeat that obnoxious behaviour I encountered with search where it interrupted my typing. Seems to work OK now. Still I'd like to know if theres a disable option to this "instant" search aspect of it, I'd like it to wait until I finish typing before it searches. Thanks.

Thank you, thats it. Now there is a dedicated search tab in folder options, and this is a search option, so why couldnt they have just put it there so people could find it easier?
