cropcircles
Running very smooth for me. Just got the Xbox 360 driver update yesterday. Not sure about PC gaming compatability yet as I'm still running my games on Vista. I did read a post about issues with 7 and gaming but this is certainly a driver issue not on the Windows 7 platform end.
Akaruz
This RC is definately needs lots of improvement1. WMP12 is in shambles with library crashes, no support for advanced tag editor, Poor album art support. Also video playback issues. 2. Cosmetics, inconsistent new icons with respect to older Vista icons. Some medieval era icons like regedit. So expect new icons in RTM. 3. Incomplete Help System Video Playback issues ? what do you mean ? ( ok that i'm using win7codecs + the 64bit components from shark since i like to have subtitles ) I'm not having any problems actually with wmp12 or using WMC ( I actually prefer it for storing libraries - the only thing i dont like it is how the Movies are shown and well having Pictures/Videos on the same section - i would prefer to have Movies/Videos on the same section and seeing the list as i see it on Videos , rather than on movies it does suck ) Cosmetics - come on bitching about regedit icons ? there are a few new icons , but yes i wouldnt mind to have a new full icon library :p About the other post where the member refers to nvidia problems , are you sure you updated all your drivers ( i had to update the coprocessor from the nforce package since win7 doesnt catch it and lets see the nforce system management one ( since the one on win7 was "old" - at least my pc does go into sleep and comes back with no problems I'm actually enjoying win7 ( didnt had any problems with vista - never failed me - except for the business version that doesnt come with WMC ( thats the only version i got from msdn-aa unfortunately :p )
nmeu
ok.. i hope somethings get fixed.. cuz i installed the RC on my main gaming box.. which is kinda dated.. asus nforce2 mobo with a geforce 6800gt 8x agp. ALL i did was install the windows updates.. which installed a new nvidia video driver. i figured yeah, sure.. let's see how WoW will run.... my video card caught on fire. literally i had to rip the side of my case open and yank my power cord. MS and NVIDIA need to fix these frickin AGP GART chipset driver issues... wtf? they thought if they waited it out long enough no one will still be using agp ??? needless to say.. i cannot find a new replacement video card that is under 125 bucks.. makes me almost forced to build a whole new system with ddr3, pci-x, sata, etc.. the only thing stopping me is the price of Intel CPUs. long story short.. i guess that little warning they flash at you while installing the RC is there for a reason?? it still smells like burnt electronic componants in my office. /facepalm goodluck nforce1/2/3 Windows 7 RC testers! -J4
Silverskull
Yeah, it COULD be the final version... but it never is. They just say it could be, but they never do that. :p

Silverskull
2. Cosmetics, inconsistent new icons with respect to older Vista icons. Some medieval era icons like regedit. So expect new icons in RTM. They changed the icons for the apps they thought an average user would be using regularly. Average users don't mess around in the registry every day. Changing those icons isn't exactly critical. Same for device manager/disk management.

The problem, in short, is that the installer incorrectly sets access control lists (ACLs) on the root of the system drive. It's a pretty serious bug, says Bott, who is "surprised that it slipped through into the release candidate Well, this is why software companies have beta tests, and "Release Candidate" isn't the same as "Release To Manufacturing". It's certainly better than finding bugs in the shipping code.

You can't blame Windows 7 for your video card catching on fire. Possibly nVidia drivers, but I don't think that would even be 100% accurate. The card should have a temp shutoff point, but things fail. If your card is under warranty I would consider that avenue for a replacement (BFG offers a lifetime warranty, for instance). I don't see you getting a AGP fix anytime soon. That isn't really up to Microsoft I don't think. It is up to your chipset maker and/or Nvidia and I just don't see them looking that far back anytime soon. AGP died out as the primary standard at least 3 years ago and is never coming back. Hardware companies don't invest the money writing and testing drivers for hardware that old. There really isn't a good enough return on their investment. emig5m
I remember running RC1 and RC2 for Windows XP back in 2001. Cosmetically and feature-wise they were almost identical to the RTM. It was all background tuning and bug fixes that made most of the RTM what it was. I wish I still had those ISO's in a folder somewhere. I still have all the way back to build 2416, lol. soonerproud
Ok...go it..I know that there is a bug thread...but since I engage you... I'm experiencing these bugs. so RC IMO isn't really ready. WPM 12 -Album art does not always appear...need to toggle different views to make them appear. -Sync does not alow to adjust conversion rate. Anything but default settings result in error and will not sync to device. -WMP 12 says it's low on memory while viewing internet videos... (I have 8 GB of ram) and this happens while viewing 1 video at a time -WMP 12 - The start menu recently used list - there is not option to clear the list. Start menu -Sometimes the white part of the start menu goes blank...only way to fix it is loging off or restarting Windows -Delete and move start menu items doesn't always work. I need to open all users and in explorer move or delete items from there -The icon on the top of the start menu sometimes gets stuck - does not change when I highligh different items on the menu Desktop gadgets -Sometimes they disapear System -My computer will not sleep - when I try it BSOD or will not wake up - the same system in Vista had no problems sleeping -I have an Phemon 2 @ 3.6 GHZ - It takes 1 minute to load up Disk Defrag -I cannot right click on the IE icon and select "Internet Options" - this was in vista -If I enable the favourite item on the start menu, and launch a site for that list, the window will always be a an unmaximized window... even if I maximize the window close it and try to reopen it. it will not remember it. Drivers (I know not MS fault) -nVidia drivers does not remember colour, gamma, brightness or contrast settings, every reboot I must reset Games DOOM 3 in vista (again same system) played like silk (no stutters) - in Win7 - the games stutters Help Menu Some items are incomplete or missing That's it You either have a hardware or driver issues. The majority of the things you listed are not bugs with Windows (The exception being the Media Player bugs, which I have also encountered.) You need to get in touch with your hardware manufacturers and get them to provide better drivers. I suspect from the symptoms, it is your video card, so you need to get the latest drivers from ATI, Nvidia, Intel or Via, depending on whom provides the chipset. ok.. i hope somethings get fixed.. cuz i installed the RC on my main gaming box.. which is kinda dated.. asus nforce2 mobo with a geforce 6800gt 8x agp.ALL i did was install the windows updates.. which installed a new nvidia video driver. i figured yeah, sure.. let's see how WoW will run.... my video card caught on fire. literally i had to rip the side of my case open and yank my power cord. denyboy
GamesDOOM 3 in vista (again same system) played like silk (no stutters) - in Win7 - the games stutters All complains are indivitual on this topic. As far as Doom3 is considered it runs better on Windows 7 for me (both XP and Win7 have latest drivers). It could be drivers that are cousing your doom3 on Win7 to run Slow. Its not Windows 7 problem. When Win7 is released manufacturers will release drivers for Windows 7. Some companies are doing such a thing even now. C++
Yes, the term release candidate implies that it is a candidate for release. Crazy, I know. I always thought they meant remote control, as in it gets remotely shut down after the beta is over, or that it was a release sponsored by Royal Crown Cola. hdood
Come on guys, Windows 7 is a modern OS designed for modern hardware, not old nForce2 machines with Athlon XPs or whatever. XP was the last supported OS for that platform. Yes, Vista and 7 will still boot on them with generic drivers, but trying to run them on hardware that old is crazy unless you're a masochist hell-bent on making your computer slower.
