Athlon 64 3200+ running at 1GHz?

Recommended Posts

I just installed the 64bit build 7100 on a Shuttle SN95G5 V2 running an Athlon 64 3200+ and have run into a issue I am not sure how to resolve.

It seems that the processor is being detected as running at 1GHz while I know the true speed of the 3200+ is 2.2GHz. I know that cool'n'quiet is supposed to step down the speed to save power/lower heat but even at full load, the processor stays at 1GHz. This is really making the PC slow and sluggish.

Anyone know of a fix? I checked the AMD website to see if there were any updated Windows 7 drivers for the proc but didn't see anything.

manual/force install AMD driver then disable cool'n'quiet or turn it on then disable it is how i fixed when had similar happen http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDet...&ItemID=173

speedstep lowers your clock to save power, when your not using your computer heavily.

If he had an intel processor, sure. AMD uses cool'n'quiet.

Cool n Quiet shouldn't go that far!!! Last time I remember I had a pentium 4 do that to me when it was a 2.53GHz chip, it would downclock to 1.5. Eventually it gave me BSODs and not even start in some situations. Maybe it is kicking the bucket?

Digix: Thanks for the link to the driver but it seems I can't download it. The page comes up with no data filled in, just looks like a blank template. I tried it on 3 PCs in Firefox 3.0.10 and IE 8 and also in Safari on my Macbook...

Anyone have the FTP link?

AFAIK you don't need a driver for Cool'n'Quiet unless you're running XP, so I'm not sure that would make any difference.

Under the power options in the control panel, under processor power management, is the Maximum set to 100%?
