unknownsoldierX
I have software for my HP laserjet that won't install. Is there a way to trick it into installing? Perhaps changing the Windows version number, or the version number the install sees? The install is an exe, so Orca won't help.

LiquidSolstice
You could try extracting the drivers with a compression tool like WinRAR, but I really wouldn't recommend "spoofing" the windows version number. A lot of drivers will start to act terribly wrong if you do so.

The drivers work fine, but I only get basic function out of the printer. There's a HP Toolbox program for scanning and doing multifunction stuff with the printer. That application will not install because the version of Windows is too high. Here is the error I get: Edited May 11, 2009 by unknownsoldierX

Again, all I can really suggest is to attempt to install in Vista compaitbility mode. If that still doesn't work, I'm afraid you're not going to be able to use that toolbox. I don't know what else to tell you, I apologize :(. Perhaps someone else will know what to do, don't lose hope!
flare561
from the look of the error if you were to click the message with the red X saying run as above the operating system error on the left it may have more information since the operating system error seems to think it can keep going it will probably tell you something along the lines of right click the file and hit run as administrator

Which is what I am doing.
FiB3R
You could use picasa to do the scanning until HP update the driver.
unknownsoldierX
Running in compatibility mode (Vista SP2) seems to have worked. All I had to do was find the right setup exe to change on the CD. Thanks everyone.
