Low FPS w/ S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky

Recommended Posts

Now I probably failed without even trying here as I'm basing my FPS off of FPS I saw in a review for the same GPU as the one I'm using. >_>

I'm getting about 8-16FPS with the following settings: DX10 mode with Enhanced full Dynamic lighting, 16x AF, AA enabled in game, at 1440x900 and 1280x1024 resolution. A website using the same settings had 34 FPS with a similar set up as to what I have.

My system is a Q6600 overclocked to 3.2Ghz, Evga GTX 260 Core 216 SC, 4GB DDR2 800 memory, 640GB WD Black HD, Vista 64 Ultimate, Gigabyte UD3L-R Motherboard.

The review set up had 4GB memory, an E8400 cpu, the GTX 260 SC GPU.

I know that no two pieces of hardware will always perform the same but really, I'm wondering why I'm getting such poor FPS in the game. I have better performance in Crysis with a high detail mod installed. I've patched the game, closed all background tasks or any excess programs. I'm using driver 185.85 and had poor performance with the previous drivers as well.

Sorry if this is a lame topic due to me comparing it to FPS found in a GTX 260 review but I just thought maybe it was a little odd that I had such a drastic performance hit.

How optimized is the Clear Sky engine compared with the first title? With all the effects turned on it crawled on my MBP (GeForce 8600M GT) while other titles with more advanced engines like Bioshock ran great.

I have the drivers up to date and DX10 installed.

I think what you should do, is start turning off things like AA and Enhanced full Dynamic lighting one at a time to see if it's any one setting.

I'm quoting what he said, "I'm using driver 185.85", so why recommend him the same drivers - Am I missing something or is this a case of not reading?

Since you brought it up faster than I can edit, I'll explain myself. I just ate lunch; yummy awesome homemade french bread pizzas. Pepperoni and a three cheese blend I concocted. I washed that down with a Pepsi, went out to my car... and roasted a bowl. So yeah, I just got high after eating lunch and didn't read down that far... because I got high, because I got high... because I got high.

Okay well a fresh install of the game sees me get anywhere from 28 to 101 FPS. I guess it's safe to say the issue is resolved.

What's weird is it was 28 FPS at the start, after an objective was updated I was getting 34-70 FPS in the same area. No matter! It plays like a dream now.
