Homegroups & Administrative Shares

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anyone successfully enabled/accessed administrative shares whilst having joined a Windows Homegroup.

I'm having problems accessing them whilst joined a homegroup with an error message - make sure your username and password are correct.

cheers

Well I currently have homegroups disabled - since it requires IPv6 to be running (and don't have it running on other devices in the home so no point on having it enabled, etc), and don't have any any other windows 7 machines running to test it with.

But sure I could turn it on and see if I can get admin shares running - with just workgroup, admin shares work just fine from another box once you do the Token reg key thing.

When I get a chance I'll enable homegroup and give it a test run. Do you really have a need for homegroups though? To be honest I think it currently has limited use, unless your windows 7 across the board on your home network, etc.

I am not sure why, or even if really required -- but if you run the homegroup diagnostics.

But like I said I do not have homegroups running, nor ipv6 - so when I went to enable it and run the diagnostics you get the above error.

Now when I get a chance to play with it - this weekend, I will get the service running and create a homegroup, etc. and then see if I can turn off ipv6 and still have it work?? And once I have a homegroup enabled, etc. - will see if admin shares work, etc.

But currently I have ipv6 completely disabled - since I have no use for it on my network.
