Thinking of picking up X3 Reunion but I had some questions.

Recommended Posts

I haven't played many space sims. In fact, my experience is limited to Jump to Lightspeed, the SWG expanions pack. I love that so much though I'd be tempted to renew my subscription just to play JtLS. I was thinking of giving X3 a try but I had some questions concerning it.

Anyone here play this game?

Is it fun?

Is there any combat?

Is there a steep learning curve?

Can I get a mining ship and turn it into a machine of destruction a la the Romulan mining ship in Star Trek?

Can I get lost in exploring a vast universe?

...And then run into random space pirates and battle them off?

sort of i havent played much

Is there any combat?

yep there is combat , again not that far so i ve only done some training stuff blowing up crates and target drones

Is there a steep learning curve?

yea its a huge curve difficult to learn one of the reasons why i havent gotten far , save often this game is unforgiving you die and you dont save its back to the beggining for you.

Can I get a mining ship and turn it into a machine of destruction a la the Romulan mining ship in Star Trek?

you can do that but it would be more a trader type ship and start a space empire with all that cash

Can I get lost in exploring a vast universe?

yea i got lost first time out

...And then run into random space pirates and battle them off?

cant answer this one

Thanks Nightwolf.

Steep learning curves can be a turn off. I tried to get into EVE but the fact that I'd most likely need post-it notes littering the side of my monitor to remember all the important **** kept me from playing more than fifteen minutes of it. Here's hoping X3 isn't the same way!

Read the manual, keep it near you at all times.

I bought the game on a whim (heard it was a really good space sim), and the interface completely confused me, I don't think I even managed to finish the first training mission (But then again, I suck at games)

I'd say it's fun but I've only played X?: Reunion>. There is ship-to-ship combat and sometimes ship-to-station combat. The learning curve is quite steep but the game is fun once you get the hang of it. The universe is fairly large and it's easy to get lost, especially with all the jump-gates. I suggest trying the demo (click here) before you buy the game. I think I might reinstall it for old time's sake.

I played this game for a few weeks. I had my own automated fleet and a few stations. Not really sure why I stopped playing though - probably because I completely ignored the campaign and got bored when there weren't any real goals (at least to me).

is terran conflic a better game than reunion? looking at the two on steam i would much rather buy reunion (cheaper, no tages) but if TC is a much better game it makes the decision hard
