Sethos
Dreams of World of StarCraft are dashed as a blue poster in the World of Warcraft forums confirms that Blizzard's next massively multiplayer online game is part of a brand new franchise. Responding to a forum post suggesting that there was no new online game coming from Blizzard because they hadn't begun advertising it yet, Blizzard poster Zarhym explains that the game is a new franchise being created entirely from the ground up. We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this. He mentions that Blizzard had already stated this, but it's news to us. Consider it stated. Disappointing news for those hoping for a massively multiplayer StarCraft or Lost Vikings title, but it'll be nice to see what Blizzard does with its first new IP in eleven years. Source: Kotaku Guess that rules out World of Starcraft and Diablo which was on a lot of peoples tongues and minds.

obiwong
Blizzard set a pretty high standard for MMOs with WoW so it would be very interesting to see what they can innovate for the next gen of MMOs
Zapadlo
I'm curious to know whether they are going to venture out into a new setting/style or continue with fantasy/sci-fi saga.
MightyJordan
Blizzard set a pretty high standard for MMOs with WoW I'm still trying to figure out how. It's just a meaningless grind-fest with currently outdated graphics and a bloody monthly subscription! I seriously can not justify paying a monthly fee for any game at all. Zapadlo
they found a way to satisfy the casual gamer and hardcore gamer market in the same game +1 I also think its the amount of content, so it also appeals to people with different preferences PvP or PvE are both done to a high standard. Monthly subscription from consumer's point of view is to keep the hordes of young kids out, the amount you get out of WoW does more then justify petty ?9 a month. MightyJordan
Monthly subscription from consumer's point of view is to keep the hordes of young kids out Really? Last time I played WoW, the chat bar was bombarded with nothing but whining little gits or spammers selling items, which just reminded me of the main reason I'm not a fan of MMOs. The only MMO I really play is Drift City, and it thankfully allows you to filter the chat between all players on the server, players nearby, or players you're teaming up with. You can do the same in WoW by turning off certain channels, it's really easy too.

Treemonkeys
yeah I hate that.. lol. That is why I never wanted to play WoW at all. For me as a gaming addict WoW actually saves me a ton of money. The content in WoW is more then enough to keep me entertained while sticking to one game where as if I didn't play WoW I would be buying at least a new game every month which is easily more than the subscription. Sometimes I do get bored of it and stop my subscription for a couple months, and every time I do that I end up spending more money on gaming that I would have if I just stuck to WoW. I can understand why some people don't like the game style but it is really cheap based on the amount of content you get.
Ash
I really hope its a Sci-Fi based game. That genre is extremely lacking and Anarchy Online is so dated it's difficult to play, and Star Wars Galaxies sucks ever since they completely changed the games a couple year back. So heres hoping Blizz makes a Sci-Fi or at least the Knights of the Old Republic MMO is really good.
MytMowse
World of Starcraft wouldn't make sense as a title if they did make that into an MMO. Universe of Starcraft on the other hand would be better. ;) Can't wait to see what the new game will look like.
lalalawawawa
So we have: Warcraft: Medieval-like time, fantasy related, magic, different races that fight for the control of Azeroth (as the primary world)... Starcraft: Future-like time, science fiction related, aliens, different races that fight for the control of the universe... Diablo: Angels vs. Demons-like setting, religion related (sort of), good vs. evil, medieval-like time, magic... The new game, well, hard to say what it would be like. They need something totally different than these three. Prediction: I'll let you know in few years (can't think of anything right now). :p

Perhaps they're gonna go outside of the typical MMO box? I'm thinking an MMO entwined with a different genre. FPS perhaps?

If you want to play it but don't want to pay you can download the free trial then use private servers, all you have to do is edit one file as far as I can remember (at least for WoW anyway). Yeah, I've used the free trial before, and I've used private servers before. I was in an alright one (WoWTopia), but the problem was that the experience gained was increased by a massive amount. I went and killed an animal for the first time and I jumped straight to level 5! :p

MightyJordan
 ...... +1. GTAIV is already so boring it feels like an MMO. :p Going back to WoW, could anyone possibly recommend me a good private server to play on? I'm looking basically for one that mimics the official servers down to a tee.
