Wait, wait. I'm I reading this correctly? No skill for FPS games? For "the" games that you really need skill? OK. Wanna play CS 1vs1?

obiwong
ok so if there's no skill involved in the game they anyone should be able to just pick it up and play and if that was true then anyone should be able to just fly through the content so how many guilds killed KJ in BC? not that many so i don't understand how you can say WoW takes no skill because it's pretty clear than some degree of skill is involved to get through the end game raid content
SMELTN
Both types of games require skill.. Just a different type of skill.. FPS is more hand eye coordination, and mmo's or rpg's are more multitasking skill.. Trust me I was pretty good at both types, and they BOTH require a ton of skill to be good at
S00N3R FR3AK
Ummm the way I read it, he means that the even FPS players(not just people from more "hardcore" mmos) look down on "hardcore" wow players. I don't think he was saying FPS takes no skill.
smurphy999999999
@Duke: I do know they have a lot of divisons, but everytime they talk about a new game, think about it? The divisons are working hard at there game atm, and then they have another one on the horizon. So wtf? Also, its like Diablo, a lot of diablo players are always saying to me "i love how blizzard can never just concentrate one 1 game, always announcing something new". You know how sad it is when blizzards own customers are like "WTF we have given you ENOUGH TIME, now give us ****ing results, even if its a beta. We need ot see more then just screenshots". So yeah, blizzard needs to start producing. I swear to god if StarCraft 2 does not have a final release date / doesnt come out this year, blizzard can kiss my brown ass, I will never buy a blizzard game again. throwing more artists and programmers at the problem will not result in the game being produced significantly faster. Due to the success of WoW Blizzard has been able to hire more people and thus staff more full development teams. That is why there are so many games in development. As a diehard fan of Diablo I want the game out too but the part of me that screams for me for it to be released asap is countered by the part that realizes the extra time that Blizzard takes to produce its games is the difference between good games and great games. Of course they could just spam out games and hope that one of them is a hit like some other developers do *cough* EA *cough*.
Sranshaft
I'd be extremely happy with someone along the lines of a cyberpunk MMO. A little Neuromancer perhaps? And don't leave out Idoru's Walled City!
Wazooty
I really really really wished it was starcraft...too bad. I'm sure it will be great regardless.... I just wonder what the new IP is...it's been wc/sc/diablo so long. What could it possibly that they haven't really covered yet? Working in cahoots with activision to make a call of duty MMO, obviously.
treborr
even 'the hardcore gamers' in wow are looked down upon from other games, especially fps, its a no skill gear game, always have been. I would disagree, they have made the instances themselves easier than they were in BC which attracts the more casual gamer, but with the achievement system the implemented it allows Blizzard to put in "Hard modes" for bosses which are certainly a lot harder than you average boss. Executor89
I really hope its a Sci-Fi based game. That genre is extremely lacking and Anarchy Online is so dated it's difficult to play, and Star Wars Galaxies sucks ever since they completely changed the games a couple year back. So heres hoping Blizz makes a Sci-Fi or at least the Knights of the Old Republic MMO is really good. Actually, I heard there's a new Star Wars MMO coming out. It looks awesome, though I have never played KOTR...

Diablous
even 'the hardcore gamers' in wow are looked down upon from other games, especially fps, its a no skill gear game, always have been. LOL So true... It's the biggest button mashing game of them all. The world while huge is epically out of date, even with the console command Graphics tweak. Meanwhile the community is a black hole, there are very few people who actually interact unless your a guildy. I quit the game beginning the year after the expansion. Frankly I'm a FPS gamer, and my gripe was the montomy of the thing. pointless quests, with no significants, repetitive mind numbing boredom, and the travel time is friggin ridicious without a mount. The pace is out of the stone age to bore you to death. I hope that even if it is secretly WOW2 that they put a engine in like UNREAL, and fully utilise the engine, for mind blowing graphics, with full 5.1 spacial sound. then have quests which actually make a difference to the world around you, and possibly make a alternative outcome to failed quests, expired time limits etc. even if it's not, i hope the next mmo, is either a 3rd AND 1st person, or just more grown up. Spookie
Frankly I'm a FPS gamer Why play a MMO then? They aren't about instant gratification. They couldn't be further than the polar opposite.
SkyDX
I have tried WoW plenty times and after about 3-4 weeks I always got bored.... you basically do the same over and over and over and over with little variations and no real impact on the world... sure in FPS you also do the same every time but you take for example Team Fortress 2, you fire it up, select a Server and right from the beginning you have fun without the need of a leveling up phase etc. and every match is different in some way. You never know what your enemies will try next etc. I wish someone would make a MMORPG with a true dynamic world. A world that the players can create by interactions. Lets say a Player Party was strong enough to wipe out a village, well that village would be gone then and not simply respawn, the quest NPCs would be death, the village destroyed. If a player starts playing the game after that incident he would never knew that there was a village if no one tells him, but players would give the option to actually rebuild the village in their own way and new NPCs would come to this village with new quests. What I also would like to see in this world, lets take typical starter quest for MMORPGs "Collect X amount of Y" If someone fulfills this quest, other players wouldn't be able to do it because it's simply already done, however as a result of this, after a while the NPC would have done something with the amount of Y which leads to a new quest for other people to take and develop the world further. If a race/nation would start a war against another race/nation, players would be forced to team up to defend their world or might also betray it and help the enemy to take control over it eventually leading to the other nation/race to be enslaved. As a result of this, players might form a resistance to defeat the oppressor and take their world back. It's kinda difficult to describe what I would like to see in an MMORPG but I think I made the basic point clear, MMORPGs need to become more dynamic and less static, they are ROLE PLAYING games after all where players are supposed to play a role! Sure there are wars in current MMORPGs but they do change hardly anything.... yeah you can team up in WoW and raid Stormwind for example but after a while everything simply respawns and meh... I'm aware that a true dynamic MMORPG would require a gigantic amount of management to keep the balance and stuff but if a large company would be determined to do it I'm sure they would be able to do it and gain a tremendous amount of money because I bet ALOT of people would like to participate in an open dynamic world. What I also would like to see change in MMORPGs is the freaking battle system. Most MMORPGs are just select target ---> move a bit ---> activate a chain of skills/attacks. MMORPGs finally need an active battle system! Some already try this and they make a good start but such systems need to be perfected. Lastly I think the entire level system needs to be replaced, granted I can't think of a replacement straight out of my mind but the whole level grinding is just a joke, it always bugged me that characters got insanely strong and can kill everything low level just because they got a X amount of experience points. Sure due to training a person can get stronger but not that insanely stronger like the difference between a level 1 and level 100 chara. weaker players should have a valid chance aganst stronger players even if they fight alone by using intelligence and tactic. Just my 2 cents^^ Oh and before anyone says something this post is directed to all MMORPGs, and not just Anti-WoW or whatever. Mando
While this is good and all. They need to concentrate on ACTUALLY releasing StarCraft 2 this year. They have so many titles "in development" and its BS. Give us a GAME ALREADY. be patient dood, it will be worth the wait ;) this aint 3drealms, Blizzard can take as long as they wish imo for Starcraft 2 as long as its stable and as good or better than Starcraft (which it will be). It has a lot to live up to :) It will sell in the bucketload not only in US & EU but has a huge following with gamers of Asia (Blizzard can rub their hands on this sure fire top seller) ontopic... while not a WoW player it makes sense whatever they are planning it will not hit the same demographic of the players of Wow does, they aint daft, also why its the No1 MMORPG I assume and Blizzards cash cow. (Im not anti-WoW, lotro has everything i would want in an online world so is the MMORPG I play). I myself quite happily pay the fee to play lotro not because i enjoy rpgs but because its based around the books of Tolkien, I also find im buying less games than before i started playing, only really buying really good titles which distract me for a while but I always fall back to lotro, ?43 every 6 months is nothing really, lifetime is around ?100 which looking back after 2years of play gets more enticing) With MMORPGs if you quest with the same people all the time its not about whats your playing but who you are doign it with that i think is the extra depth the genre adds if done right. I would assume blizzard will go for a group not satisfied with the current mmos. They are quite astute in the games business. Golferjim
Will be very interesting to see what they are going to make. With the high standards of World of Warcraft its going to be hard for their new MMO to be able to top that :p Good luck to them though with coming up with a brand new idea, hope its going to be worth waiting for. Reading this thread has really made me want to go out and get a new copy of World of Warcraft ( I stopped playing).
Osiris
Blizzards pretty clever, although they do have a tendency to go for very cartoonish graphics on near everything they touch. I would love to see a more mature and graphical world similar to AoC. As others have said some more innovative features to interact with the world etc. Definitely I think the big thing though has to be graphics and some new features to the mmo genre, blizzard has always had lore and story down pat so thats not going to be an issue, but making something that will potentially compete with WoW and something entirely new is gonna have to have some strong features. Golferjim
I rather enjoy the chartoony graphics, makes the game more enjoyable in my eyes :D Maybe Im more of a child on the inside  However I would like to see them do something more "serious" Just to see if they can do it ;)
