Windows 7 RC b7100 is another beta

Recommended Posts

I think Windows 7 RC is another beta release for testing. It is more buggy for a Release "Candidate". Now i am using Windows 7 Release Candidate and often experiencing lots of bugs. Some are really disturbing. For example taskbar button of an application is often disappears.

Microsoft named this second beta to RC. Because, they wanted to reach larger users. For example i never installed and tried beta and leaks. But when it gets RC, i gave a chance to this upcoming OS. There are lots of people like me. Most people waits until a more complete and less buggy build (RC) is released.

Microsoft named this second beta release to Release Candidate. Because, they wanted to say that "everything is on its way" after Windows Vista failure. Because a second beta is to cover first beta's bugs and to prevent users to send feedback of old-known bugs. a second beta means there are too many bugs to be fixed... But RC means its feature complete, and ready to be fixed. They wanted: "A beta version -> A RC version -> Final RTM version"

There are lots of small and big bugs in RC too. Taskbar preview, Word-wrap bug in Notepad (still), etc.

Remember Betta fish in RC desktop? In this OS, Microsoft worked carefully on every little detail. Microsoft also made some visual improvements and small tweaks in OS "before its getting RTM". Release Candidate versions is always (and should be) more complete and bugless releases than betas. But still betta fish on RC's desktop?

I think Windows 7 Release Candidate = Windows 7 Beta 2

What do you think about that? Please share your thoughts...

Here is some of my experiences with Windows 7 "Release Candidate"

Also iv'e had a bug where the 'All programs' resource had COMPLETELY disappeared and i couldn't get onto my programs until a reboot. It wasn't even clickable it was just blank, nothing there. kind of weird.

i experience none of the bugs above with 7100.

I have not had any issues with 7100 at all. It would suggest you have a hardware or driver related issue....

What type of Video Card do you have and what is the driver revision?

No issues here. I've got it running on my home desktop and HP laptop and my work Dell laptop connected to our domain.

did you try Alt-Tabbing for Nero Express to see if it will come up?

Try unintsalling nero and seeing if that helps. I think nero might not be win 7 compatible.

i have this issue in all programs, explorer windows, firefox, photoshop, nero...

Seems to be a driver issue.

Can I recommend a new clean install please? Also, did you upgrade from beta?

Agree. A fresh install can always work wonders. I did an upgrade from 7057 and it didn't go so well :\

its a clean install, installed full updates and updated drivers from driver update.

I use Nero v7 with 7100 and don't see any of these problems .. everyrhing works fine for me!

I just tried pinning Nero Express to the taskbar and that works fine too, so I don't think Nero is the problem.

I reckon you have a corrupt install .. perhaps you burnt the iso too fast in the first place?

Have you downloaded the correct RC to start with?

*Searches for dead'soul's tin foil hat*

but seriously if MS wanted to release another beta then they would have, i highly doubt they'd go to the lengths of calling a beta RC just to make it look like more progress had happened. Also the RC stands for 'Release Candidate' there will still be bugs and testing to be done and nowhere is it said otherwise.

Did you download it from Microsoft? It seems to me you think you have the RC installed when in fact you don't.

Neros definitely not the problem. I use Nero 8 at work just about every day and cant say Ive had a single issue with it.

Ive had iTunes and Firefox disappear from the task bar before but I figure with Firefox I freaked it out with 20 tabs open at once, and iTunes well.. Im a Mac guy myself but iTunes has NEVER worked on Windows like it does on a Mac so I chalk it up to half ass coding jobs on Apples part..

There maybe bugs still out there but sorry this OS is running more rock solid than Vista's retail releases ever did and its not even finished yet. Not to mention its a hell of alot more compatible with older things then Vista ever was as well.

I had had those bugs in the first Betas but I haven't had them since then. A clean install should help, and if it doesn't work then it might be a problem with some driver, or a Windows bug

Yeah, you really need to reinstall Windows 7 build 7100 again. A clean install. Also, make sure it's definitely an official website you're downloading the ISO from.

This is not a beta in disguise and I experience none of the bugs you describe, even though I upgraded, rather than performing a clean install.

The release candidate really does feel almost complete, to me.

LMAO I really don't understand this type of thread, yes there are bugs but what is your point? They are in no way show stopping. It's not like Beta and RC are completely objective standards. If they think they are almost done but still want to get some feedback and implement improvements they can call it a beta if they want to. If they think it is ready to be released the can call it RC if they want to. Even when it hits the shelves it can and almost certainly will have some bugs in it, as long as they aren't show stopping it isn't a big deal. Personally I am quite happy it is this solid months from release, even if this was the version I paid for off the shelf it wouldn't be a big deal to me.
