Denis W. Veteran Posted May 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Just caught this happening right now. All I did was simply open a window, and this came up: For reference, this on a 32-bit RC build with the Forceware set 185.85. Yes the GPU has a slight overclock, but this has never happened before on Vista or older builds of Windows 7. edit: See my third post. Panda X
It's the 185.85 drivers. Many people are having this issue. Nvidia - Vista issue all over again. Not really surprised. Do this: net stop uxsms net start uxsms
Denis W. Veteran Posted May 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks for your confirmation guys. Thought my GPU's overheating again. :pinch:
Guest xiphi
Haven't seen this issue with my 8600 GTS, yet. In fact, I've yet to see many of the issues people are experiencing with the RC.
DaveJukes
I get it too. Nvidia drivers do it. Maximise and restore usually make it clear itself.
Denis W. Veteran Posted June 6, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 6, 2009 Just a heads up that this bug seems to be fixed in 186.06. I've tried turning on and off Cleartype and using Show Desktop a couple of times, but no glitching so far. I'll have to keep watch for the next couple of days to determine if this is a fluke or not. Denis W. Veteran Posted June 7, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2009 Yeah, the problem returns after sleeping and resuming the system. Restarting the DWM fixes this though.
Raa
So we'll put this down to a hardware problem then? And isn't your sig a bit too large? :p

Denis W. Veteran Posted June 7, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2009 So we'll put this down to a hardware problem then? And isn't your sig a bit too large? :p I don't know. This is all happening on a 8800 GT. Many different things can trigger this, including exiting a 3D game. This never happens on my laptop, but it uses the Windows Update drivers for the Geforce 7400 Go, which I believe are a bit older. Also the 7400 Go uses WDDM 1.0 drivers. No it isn't, one of them is just at 550x170. :)
soumyasch
I have never run into any such problem either with release 185.85 drivers (8400M GS), but it does sometimes cause a little flicker and colored bands during the fade-in of the welcome screen. Not even that problem occurs in Win 7 version of the same drivers. In Kubuntu 9.0x x64, however, the 185.18.14 drivers make the card vomit out all the colors it knows in random bands and after about a minute of the dazzline neon lights show, it reboots. I tried reinstalling several times, ended the same everytime.
