jordan399
Hi all, I have 10.5.7 and have enabled vnc to connect to it remotely (via the screen sharing feature or what ever it is called). When I connect to it from my windows laptop it prompts for my password, i enter it, then nothing happens - no screen pops up which is usually what happens in my experience. I have tried a number of clients and all seem to do the same thing. I know the clients are crashing because they remain in my task manager, any help would be appreciated. cheers,
giga Veteran Posted May 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 15, 2009 Did you set a pass in the sharing settings?

Flantec
You did not say whether you are trying MAC or PC VNC clients, but it is possible that it is a password issue. Some PC VNC clients do not display any sort of authentication failure when you are using the wrong password. It is also possible that you need to modify the encoding or color settings in the client (try something like "Let Server Decide" or full color setting). If you are using a PC and are trying the UltraVNC client, change the setting for AUTO to any other setting, such as ULTRA or LAN. Don't ask me why, but AUTO does not work with MACS. +StevoFC MVC Posted May 15, 2009 MVC Share Posted May 15, 2009 Have you tried TightVNC on your Windows machine? I had issues with other clients when trying to connect to my iMac, but TightVNC worked fine.
jordan399
tight vnc worked for about ten seconds then disconnected. Now when ever I connect the window pops up and immediately closes with a connection aborted message. Any ideas? should I try a third party server? any recommendations? Unrealistic
To do what you are talking about I personally use Team Viewer. It has the fastest rendering I have seen and I have used Tight VNC, Real VNC and Remote Desktop. http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx
Vice
The built in VNC server on OS X is really rubbish. I've had nothing but issues with it. Performance, sessions expiring when you try to copy and paste text and a lack of features like File Transfers. I swapped to RealVNC instead and it works flawlessly. This may be a solution you don't want (Why should I install a Server when OS X already has one!) but seriously the built in one for me has been nothing but trouble.
