High(ish) resolution on Mac Mini

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who got a Mac Mini and connected it to his TV. He's running it in 1080p but pretty much everything is unreadable when sitting across the room. Is there somewhere that you can set "large fonts" so it would reflect it across the OS?

Never used a Mac but i googled for you and the first result gave me "if you need to increase the text/icon size you can do that from your view settings in the menu bar, when you have finder open."

Yeah, that changes the font size under the icons, but that's it. The menu bar stays small and unreadable.

Not going to happen for the rest of the GUI...we all know Apple is working of Vectorizing the GUI for scalability reasons, but its not there yet.

what size tv does he have that it's unreadable?

It's a 52".

Ahh, I guess that's the answer I needed. OK, thanks.

Quartz Debug dpi scaling is really what you want, but it's not really complete as of yet. I'd suggest using the zoom feature with your mouse/keyboard.

Weird, I was under the impression OS X did a good job with DPI scaling up until now.

Something you may find useful.. if you need to zoom in on a piece of text (or anything), hold CTRL and scroll with your mouse. Should zoom the whole screen!

If it doesn't work, you may need to enable it under mouse + keyboard settings.
