adarkenigma
i juss got new macbook pro 17 inch. with 2.66 ghz processor 3 days ago.. this is my first mac. i had some question for other macbook pro users. any help is appreciated. how hot macbook pro suppose to get? i installed smc fancontrol.. and its at 120 F and when i use some apps like google earth its goes upto 169 to 179 F is that normal? i have notebook cooler which used with my old laptop. but i dont think its makein any difference. is there in anyway to activate window with mouse hover over them, like in windows? is there anyway to select minimize windows usein alt + tab like in windows? can any one recommend any type for cover for it? i been lookin at spcok see thru covers but they dont any covers for this macbook yet is there any way to cut and past folder in os x... maybe keyboard shortcut? i know i can get apple care plan within a year.. but has anyone really used it for what they charging for its, 300 bucks is mad crazy for me. thanks edit: almost forgot i looked on line about how to connect macbook pro to regular tv... i came up with DVI to Video adapter.. which i already have... but how do i connect it to computer? it doesnt have small plug that has on left side of mac i got this one
Sikh
I can only answer 1 question and that is the Alt+Tab Question. For OS X(Macs) its Apple + Tab, or "Command Key(with the apple on it) + Tab". Its just like Alt Tab. Command Key + Q will close that app.
PL_ Veteran Posted May 17, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 17, 2009 Copying and pasting folders...select the folder and right-click and choose Copy, then right click the empty space you want it to go in and choose Paste. Copy is Command-C and Paste is Command-V. Your MacBook Pro uses Mini DisplayPort, a relatively new open standard. Right now Apple only sell Mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI or Dual-Link DVI (for those 30" screens you might've seen). Being an open standard, other companies can make their own adaptors, and the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI from Monoprice might be closer to what you need. EDIT: Ah, you said you've got a DVI to video adaptor already. Well there's the Apple DVI one I mentioned earlier, or the Monoprice one.
Vice
i juss got new macbook pro 17 inch. with 2.66 ghz processor 3 days ago.. this is my first mac.[...] I have that Notebook so I will try to answer some of your questions. how hot macbook pro suppose to get? i installed smc fancontrol.. and its at 120 F and when i use some apps like google earth its goes upto 169 to 179 F is that normal? Yes that is normal is there in anyway to activate window with mouse hover over them, like in windows? I don't really understand the question. is there anyway to select minimize windows usein alt + tab like in windows? Minimise with Alt+Tab? I really don't know what you mean here. In Windows Alt+Tab switches between applications. You can do the same thing in OS X by using the CMD + Tab key. i know i can get apple care plan within a year.. but has anyone really used it for what they charging for its, 300 bucks is mad crazy for me. Apple Care is very good and worth the cash however don't buy it from Apple get it from Ebay I purchased it on there for ?120 or so that covers a notebook and Apple Router (Of which I own) costing ?2200 (Notebook) +?110 (Router) for 3 entire years. A very good deal. is there any way to cut and past folder in os x... maybe keyboard shortcut? /b> OS X doesn't have Cut and Paste in its Finder (Which is like Explorer on Windows) instead it has Copy and Paste - If you want Cut you will need to go back to Windows or get an alternative to the OS X Finder (Of which there are a few) i looked on line about how to connect macbook pro to regular tv... i came up with DVI to Video adapter.. which i already have... but how do i connect it to computer? it doesnt have small plug that has on left side of mac /b> Your only real choices are Mini-DisplayPort, DVI or VGA - The Mini-DisplayPort on the MacBooks and MacBook Pros do not carry sound and neither does DVI or VGA (by design) so you can get video out via these 3 types of interfaces but for sound you will need a separate cable. Mini-DP to VGA/DVI are expensive so be prepared to pay for adapterscan any one recommend any type for cover for it? i been lookin at spcok see thru covers but they dont any covers for this macbook yet/i>[/b]/b> I looked a while ago for 'Covers' for the Unibody 17" but it's quite new and most of the covers I found were for the older model and won't fit as the new Unibody is a little wider and deeper then the older model and obviously with its Unibody construction has different dimensions including a new keyboard. adarkenigma
thank you all for quick reply Sikh, PureLegend and +Vice i know mac has command + tab .. but when i use it its doesnt show minimized windows in it. where in windows it is possible to see even when windows are minimized. of course i made change to mac so i am not planing to go back to windows. tho i have installed windows 7 regarding windows 7, is it possible to extend windows partition to be more then 32 gb .. cuz boot camp doesnt have any options to extend partition size. @ PureLegend thanks again for monoprise one adapter i am goin to give that a go i juss hope it works about window tracking is like selecting windows automatically when hovering mouse over that window for here is one example so far i am loving the mac for battery life and speed compare to my last laptop Gateway NX560XL.. which fell apart miserably. is there any tweaking application out there for mac like in windows it was tuneup utilities .. i am leaning more towards somethin that tweaks whole OS maybe for speed and customization aspects. last question... is there good clipboard managers for OS X, which one do you guys recommend? thanks again
MasterC
My advice is to stop thinking and treating OSX like Windows. It's a different operating system - treat it like something new to learn. Don't expect it to operate the same way - you'll just be disappointed. Both operating systems do things different ways. As for Apple Care, I'd get it. I had to have my logic board replaced a few months ago, and it would've cost me $800. I didn't pay a thing with Apple Care.

You might be able to do this from the command line. Boot camp is just a glorified partition manager GUI, with the real work being done by a command line app and the EFI. @ PureLegend thanks again for monoprise one adapter i am goin to give that a go i juss hope it worksabout window tracking is like selecting windows automatically when hovering mouse over that window for here is one example Sloppy focus is only supported in the Terminal app. And even then, you need enable it in some plist. I was gonna make some comment about how windows implementations of Unix features tend to suck, but then again, Apple's done it as well *cough* spaces *cough*. so far i am loving the mac for battery life and speed compare to my last laptop Gateway NX560XL.. which fell apart miserably.is there any tweaking application out there for mac like in windows it was tuneup utilities .. i am leaning more towards somethin that tweaks whole OS maybe for speed and customization aspects. I've never found a need to "tweak" OSX. Phantom Helix
sorry to bring this up again.. but i have looked every where on how to connect MBP to regular tv, and so far no one had definite answer... i got Mini Display Port to DVI Adapter from mono price but it doesnt work. its only detects tv... but cant see anything on tv. is there is cheaper solution out there as compare to $ 120 converter. just to watch it on regular tv  What kind of connection does your TV have? if it has an HDMI (HDTV) you can use this then connect a standard HMDI to it then to the TV. If not HMDI/HDTV then you need to chain the proper adapters together to get what you want in most cases, but if you have what is necessary and you dont see anything on the TV it might be a PAL/NTSC issue or if you dont have it connected directly to the tv but through a surround sound box or something that might mess it up to. you might also want some good MAC websites such as http://www.macapper.com http://www.macupdate.com http://www.maczot.com http://bestmacsoftware.org/ http://chronosnet.com/Download/iclipboard_download.html http://www.app4mac.com http://www.usingmac.com/2007/11/21/mac-os-...booster-hotkeys http://www.osxkeyboardshortcuts.com/produc...tcuts-book.html Edited May 28, 2009 by Phantom Helix
adarkenigma
thanks mr.a & phantom helix isn't witch paid app.. i was leaning more towards opensource or fee app for now i am using Clipmenu i find it better then jumpcut its juss regular tv that i am tryin to connect MBP to with yellow, red and white connections to it. i doubt there is any easy way to connect MBP to regular TV even on apple forums ppl had to buy converters to connect to tv. but then i was thinking about gettin projector maybe i can connect MBP to it. i never owned projector before but this Toshiba TDP-ET10U is within my budget. i know its 499 but on amazon i found it for 350 bucks. is it good projector? does anyone have experience with projectors and MBP. it says one website that distance between 2 ft and 6ft but distance between 2 walls of my room is 11 ft. it also says it ground mount... can i still wall mount it? will it be really blurry from 11ft? wat do you guys think is it good idea to go with projectors?
