JMann Veteran Posted May 17, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 17, 2009 Hi all, Just been on a long Holiday to Scotland, to which I took my Macbook with me so I can look at my photo's whilst up there etc. Unfortunately though on the first night of staying up there, I booted my Macbook up to which it did start normally and noticed that the Battery status was: "Battery Not Charging" and it sat at 0% and never increased; this happened all night so eventually I shut down my Macbook hoping that tomorrow the problem would fix itself - wishful thinking. ;) Next morning I started my Macbook, and to my absolute surprise it didn't boot! It just did the usual startup sound, with the Apple logo and the scrolling wheel and the laptop never starts. The longest I have left it to boot was for 2 hours, and it never moved. Now that I am back, I have tried a few things like pressing CMD & S or V on startup and seeing if anything obvious comes up which doesn't seem so. I have also booted from the OSX DVD and done the Disk Utility Repair & Permissions check and after doing that I now get the usual startup by now after about 2 minutes it does this: Light Blue Screen Dark Blue Screen with Mouse Cursor Mouse Cursor disappears Apple Loading wheel ~ Starts again from the top, and just keeps going in a loop. Now as what to try next, I am stumped. Now I could take it to an Apple Store, but it's about 2 hours drive away so if I can avoid that in anyway possible I will. Now I understand it may be best to format and start again which is fair enough but I need to take a backup of some of my Photo's that haven't yet been backed up so if I could get a working machine until I can backup/wipe and start again that would be great; does anyone know of a way I could do that? All my Photo's are in iPhoto currently. Any suggestions are welcome, I can't say that I am that well trained with Mac's so I may of missed quite a few basic things. Thanks, JMann

JMann Veteran Posted May 17, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 17, 2009 Thanks Buzz, but unfortunately that hasn't helped. I have been going all day, and tried all the following suggestions from the Apple Support website: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1411 None of those helped unfortunately. I also found this article: http://mahalkita.nanogeex.com/2007/09/28/h...ing-link-error/ Which did repair some things on the Disk, but that didn't fix it either. Anyone got any suggestions on what I can try next? Thanks :)

JMann Veteran Posted May 17, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 17, 2009 Holding shift while booting will get safe mode... Tried that, unfortunately it won't boot into Safe Mode. Also tried over Verbose Safe Mode, and it just comes up with different messages everytime I try it. After reading some more, people suggest to do an Archive Install which I am running now - will let you know how that goes. Thanks for your help Buzz99.
