Fingerprint reader can't scan succesfully

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm using a HP pavilion DV3630 as test device for W7 and want to use the fingerprint since I'll be putting work documents on it and want to protect them :)

This laptop is using a validity fingerprint sensor the vfs201. I've installed the win7 software + drivers from the validity website and it shows up under control panel biometric devices just fine.

The problem I'm having now is that I can't scan my finger. It keeps saying "this scan was not succesful". Anybody have any idea why it won't scan ?

I'm using an HP X18-1180CA for Windows 7, I just used the fingerprint software/drivers from the HP website for Vista for my model

and it seems to work fine, after that I didn't really bother to try and find Windows 7 designed drivers/software, if it works I'm happy

Edit: I guess I don't really have anything to offer other than try the Vista drivers/software

I installed the Authentec fingerprint drivers for Win7 on my Fujitsu S6510 and it works fine with the RC.

How does that help Zwinky?

It doesn't.

I just realized I didn't try it with vista so maybe the reader is just faulty ... I have the same laptop as spare so I'm going to take out the vista HD and try it with that.

I'll keep you guy's informed.

it said that the wbf demo only turns on the logon screen, while wdm drivers that work with vista and xp also enables the 'control features' and stuff, im thinking that means the actual letting you sign in part of the drivers...

Well it works ... Like I suspected it was a hardware issue. Tried it in vista and got the exact same results and error message. I tried my win 7 hard drive in the sapre laptop and it worked great. So I exchanged the laptop for a new one and now everything is up and running.
