There was a superbar in 6519

I was watching video from MIX09 - Designing the Windows 7 UI.

And there is the part (about 25:00) when they show 2 years of their project in 30 seconds. I watched every picture (with pausing) and there was this image too:

So, it says build 6519. I

Did you knew it? Can someone maybe unlock the feature (like the Blue Badge for 6801)?

Yeah. I and someone else (wasn't Rafael) noticed this before the MIX09 video (actually right after it leaked).

The superbar has been in 7 since the 6400 line when it use to say Windows Codename "7".

I don't know anything about unlocking this UI element (although, I doubt it's possible in newer builds); however, I was wondering if you could possibly link me to the video please? I'm very interested in watching it.

Very cool find. Its interesting to see some of these concepts were cemented far earlier than announced and shown to the general public. Explains why they haven't really cared for all the interface suggestions/pleading done during the build 7000 public beta.

btw, anyone know which song is playing in the background of that 30sec?

Shame they scrapped that little number in the circle for displaying instances of an app. Seems to be a much more efficient way of displaying the info than the current way in my opinion.

True, that number looks neat. I just noticed it when I read your comment.

yeah, it's great. but maybe they scrapped it because it reminds (at least me) on iPhone circles with numbers over the icon which represents, for example, new mail. I know the function isn't the same but the look is the same.

i mean on this. look at the phone icon.

I personally think the number would be annoying. It would cover up some of the application icon, whether it is semi-transparent or not. It is also information which I don't need to know. I don't really need to know how many Windows of a particular application I have open, at least not all the time. If I ever do need to know, for some reason, I can hover over the icon and it will show me :)

Of course, that is just my opinion, but I'd rather my taskbar be kept tidy and only show the application icons and any important notifications these icons wish to show (like a new email, or my Windows Live Messenger status - this is useful information and so I don't mind it covering the icon a bit) :) I'm one who appreciates the beauty of some application icons and I love how nice my taskbar looks with the size of the icons and no text labels ;)

here is an older prototype of the superbar that I found on winmatrix the other day. no build info is given though

I remember that one. That's from when Vista itself was in Beta. The system tray icons shown there were in the UX Guidelines back then too.

There are 2 more screenshots I found interesting and thought that you maybe like to see them.

In this, icons on taskbar look like regular desktop icons. Reminds me of Win 3.1 UI where windows were minimized to desktop.

On this, taskbar and sidebar are merged into one. Reminds me of early Longhorn.

Why you want to unlock a feature found in a very early build of 7?

Having two rows of text in the taskbar next to the icons (as seen there) would've been nice, too bad they scrapped that again :(
