Screenshot of the conclusion.

They ran Cinebench, Super Pi, Winrar and Diskbench. I think Cinebench depends mostly on the GPU so optimized driver will play a big role here which isn't as mature for Windows 7 yet. Super Pi is CPU dependent? Not sure about Winrar and Diskbench results.

Your comments please. RTM will have the same results?

Sorry about Vista SP2, they tested with SP1 I think.

Have Windows 7 and Vista running on 2 identical computers and on a day to day use 7 feels significantly faster. Even if it the same in benchmarks (duh, same hardware) the response time from various small actions has been noticeably improved. And that what matters in a daily use.

Yeah but why are benchmarks coming on the same level I wonder. I am using Windows 7 RC as well and have used almost all test builds, have found it better than Vista.

I have just done a quick comparison with Windows 3.11, I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to Windows 7 if you have Windows 3.11.

When it comes down to performance Windows 3.11 installs quicker than Windows 7 boots.

It is not full of bloat, it has the applications you need to browse the Internet and type a letter and at blistering speeds.

LOL! If only it could see more than a few MBs of RAM <kidding>

In all, seriously what great benefits does Windows 7 have for the majority of computer users. Apart from the superbar which is great, seeing as it`s what ~9 years since XP the overall leap forward does not seem that great.

Compare this to advances in other stuff, hardware, cars, household appliances etc,etc and imo the leap hasn`t been that great.

Don`t get me wrong, i do like Win 7 and am using it now but unless you do a lot of heavy work with graphics(direct x) or don`t need/wan`t the `latest`what are the benefits?

Security?

Uh, if you're comparing Win 7 to XP: a lot.

Your argument fails. They are running same software version on all three OSs. You can't run Office 2003 on Win 311

Yeah, I haven't seen an OS that has major performance improvements over it's precursor with third party applications. For me, Windows 7 has been great improvement over Vista with basic Windows operations like starting, shutting down, searching, thumbnailing files etc.

No, not really. Vista SP2 and 7 RC feel about the same in terms of pure speed on my machine.

@rakeshishere - most of those features are irrelevant to many people (I do not even know what the hell most of those are) and this is NOT the point of the thread.

When I bench marked, W7 pre-RC and XP64 - there was no comparison. XP beat the living **** out of Windows 7 in most tests.

I have not tested W7 7100 yet vs XP, but it seems that it is better - while in XP QL get about 120-125 FPS - W7 gives about 100 - 120 FPS - so it is pretty even.

I might have those tests if anyone wants. I can also bench W7 x64 7100 RC vs XP x64 Professional Post-SP2. If anyone is interested.

1). Riggers brought up the feature set.

2). Well, why don't you learn what they do, then.

3). What tests did XP beat it in?

4). Go ahead, benchmark the RC of Win7. It's more appropriate than benchmarking a beta.
