AndyD
I'm trying to figure out why discs I've sent to a friend appear blank on her end. Unless I'm supposed to be burning discs on a pc different for a mac, the only thing I can think of is that OSX doesn't support dual layer discs if this is the case, what do I need to do get the discs to work? If I need to burn the discs any differently, then let me know as well

Admiral Michael
DVD readers don't need to state that they support dual layer to read them. Store bought movies are dual layer and they can read those. You just need to worry about dual layer support when you buy a burner. As to the reading issue, did you close the session on the disc? AndyD
Not sure if I closed the disc - I thought I did but then again not 100% sure
Slacker
OS X does support dual layer burning. First of all, what software are you using? Disk Utility should make those dual layer discs without a problem. If you have to, make the disk image first, fill it with whatever you want, and then burn it. If you using Toast, you can choose to burn the disc as "Mac & PC"
AndyD
Sorry - to be clear - I'm burning the discs on a PC and it's being read on OSX. when the person checks the disc, it's empty. It's happened a few times already actually
giga Veteran Posted May 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 20, 2009 What software are using to burn it? What file system?
Slacker
More than ever, the software that you use is important to consider on that PC. If you're using Nero or Roxio's stuff, of if you're using Windows built in burning engine, the disc may have to be finalized before it can be read on the Mac. We need to know the software and the method used.
Eric Veteran Posted May 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 21, 2009 OSX should be able to read discs that aren't finalized. Is the disc showing that there is content on it when you put it in the Windows PC?
