Windows 8 Pre-Alpha: Is it real? Or just a joke?

Recommended Posts

what windows 8? another upgrade for win 2000? nice.

No. Windows 8 will be an upgrade to Windows 7, just like Windows XP was an upgrade to Windows 2000, Windows Vista was an upgrade to Windows XP and Windows 7 is an upgrade to Windows Vista.

I appreciate sarcasm, but only when it's funny. Windows is constantly improving and Windows 7 is one of the best operating systems out there in terms of performance and features. Windows 2000 doesn't even compare either.

Is this the one that installs so quick it finishes before you start.

yeah. It's actually installed on my system now. I wasn't sure how it got there, but after reading the documentation that came with it, it seems as if Windows 8 has super-ready-boot, which anticipates when you will need the computer, and gets it ready for you.

By using this feature, Microsoft was able to have the operating system write itself, and released, before it was even announced of sold.

Unfortunately, this puts Microsoft in the position of trying to figure out how to get consumers to pay for something they never bought.

8.1.7990 is obviously fake, but 8.0.2091 is real.

So they're completely omitting 7.0 altogether? Yeah right

If anyone believes this ludicrous Win8 pre-alpha nonsense, I have this nice tool to sell to you

Right, Microsoft is just going to stop with Windows 7 and call it a day.

So much for the dumb comment of the day :pinch:

It's still many months until Win7 comes out - but sure, let's split up development teams and start working on Win8 already, before Win7 is even finished, it doesn't matter if Win7 is delayed a few months because of that. Holiday and Xmas business doesn't matter at all.

Yes, it pays off to look towards future releases, and the earlier they start, the better they can ensure that Windows 8 hits during the holiday season. Its not like all of Microsoft grinds to a halt while bugs are being picked out of the RC. Sure, more manpower is being given to Win7 right now, but I'm certain that by now, at least a few minds over in Redmond are focused on taking the next step.

You do know that for the past two consumer Windows releases, work on the next version started around the current version's RC stage?

Not sure when they started work on Windows 7 (if you want to be technical and trace its roots to "Blackcomb," it dates back almost a decade) but work on Vista started when XP was in its RC stage.

Total BS. The first Win 7 builds weren't even compiled until months after Vista was released.

How do you know, are you guessing from leaked builds / build numbers, or do you work for Microsoft?

It's not far fetched with slightly overlapping work, since MS has already been recruiting folks for Windows 8. This is official info from their own site.

Anyway, the "8.1" part makes it look fake, as it doesn't make sense.

I am still not commenting on this being real or joke, everything is still so vague.

But I wish to bring out a point: many brings out the point of kernel 8 is a joke, but then, how come some-one is so stupid to put up 8.0 on "faking a string", while he should know better of 6.0 and 7.0??

Could it be MS had really reserved the 7.0 for something else??

MS originally wanted to use 7.0 for Windows 7, but dropped that plan due to pressure from hard-and software vendors who feared compatibility issues.

Thus, Windows 8 (or whatever it will be named) will be 7.0 - anyone claiming it to have 8.0 (or even 8.1) is already fake by default :pinch:

im thinking, just because it has an '8' at the beginning of the version number doesnt mean alot...

its like, after the fork in windows 7 between the 70xx and 71xx builds, the features that didnt make it in time before the code-freeze would be piled into windows 8...

the development is continuous, the break in number is what they actually sell...

That's my point, if you know it, the Ruskies probably know it just as well, why then put up 8.0 "when trying to fake a string"??

Another thing, yesterday on googling this thing pop up, but the thread has actually been removed. It could be because the forum master found that it's a fake(2.4G, looks like a win7 x86), or maybe something else(??)

(A word to the mods: In my simple naive mind it is just a google page, no torrent/warez links, if you still don't like it, please please just remove it, and spare me of another warning, I'd appreciate it.)

It may not necessary to be a "jump" or "break" in numbers.

Just an assumption out of pure guesswork, suppose when MS intended to call win7 kernel 7, development of the win8 kernel was also started, naturally, it's named k.8. Later, k.7 was droped, but win8 team dosen't want to change from k.8 to k.7, in could involve much hard labor and possible errors, so......

a quote from that forum: http://file-tracker.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?p=33702#33702

Folks, stop talking about 8! It still doesn't exist.

I've cleaned all up for not to misinform people.

When time will come we'll make a new flooding-room for 8 only.

Thank you so much!! I went to that thread, go back one page, open up a "hidden post", there you go:

(Note: I am not saying anything in it is real/legit, just a matter of interest)

Oh Really???

Did you know they skipped a version in office?

Office 2007 -> 12.0

Office 2010 -> 14.0

So why not skip 7.0 and go straight to 8.0 to mach the name??

Since most of Win7 is done and locked, the individual teams who've finished their Win7 targets are probably in the very first stages of thinking up if not coding for Win8 I bet.

But will that show up in full builds? I doubt it. They probably have their own team specific "builds" to just test out their own individual code for now. We won't see anything about Win8 till this time next year probably. But that doesn't mean a good chunk of the Windows team isn't working on it already.
