Windows Will Not Shut Down

Recommended Posts

Finally got round to installing this yesterday, within a day ive located my first serious issue, windows refuses to shut down, click on start > shut down, message appears stating "Windows is shutting down" and then we just sit there and nothing more happens. have to eventually do a dirty shutdown in order for the machine to be powered down. anyone else have similar problems/solutions?

Well, its obviously frozen so there's not much else you can do. Unless the loading light is on, in which case leave it, although I can't think why it would be. So just do a 'dirty shutdown' as you call it.

If it freezes the next time you shut it down, then there is a serious problem but at the moment, there's not much you can do.

its not frozen, the loading light continues to go round in circles. it was left for 15/20 mins last night and didn't go any further. this is not a one off, i attempted to shut down 3 times yesterday and each time the problem was the same.

try this, open task manager, hit shitdown, watch what happens. if nothing happens, start killing off processes one at a time, starting with explorer, u might be able to discover which process is holding up the shutdown
