ryoohki
I used to use AVG 8.5 since about the last 4-5 version i had Slowdown and lock up (temporary lock up) with the OS (not in the January Beta tought). I uninstalled it today and downloaded a trial of NOD32 and pam, my speeds are back to when i was using the January Beta. I tested that at my friends house, and it did the exact same thing. The computer become unresponsive randomly with AVG 8.5. Anyone had that happen with this antivirus?
gemro
I had the same issue w/AVG. I am now using McAfee Beta , which is good until the end of the year . Could not see installing and uninstalling these different Beta's every 30 days or so. Believe it or not, it works very well. Never been a McAfee fan. uberv
me too,i noticed many slowdowns with AVG 8.5. Unistalled it and went for Nod32. Does anyone know when Microsoft will release their free and performance-optimized security suit Morro?

spiritv2
Count me in with nod32 4 beta, no noticable slowdown on any of my systems performance wise, although i will say that the firewall does have it quirks for example it makes some machines not see others, so you definitely have to tweak that or just simply go with another firewall solution, get nod32 antivirus only (as opposed to smart security), and perhaps zonealarm as firewall. wahoospa
Is McAfee Beta free to use. AVG has gotten bloated and over 60 megs to download. I used Kaspersky for a 30 day trial and liked it very much. It was only anti-virus and not all the other bells and whistles attached.

Subject Delta
Using an anti-virus app will naturally cause some slowdowns, due to the way most on demand scanners work. I don't notice mine when I use Windows in normal operation, but when I game I just turn the realtime protection off.
protocol7
I gave up on AVG when it hit v8. Although i was already starting to have doubts about it's detection rates. I switched to Avira AntiVir and have been very happy with it ever since. It's nice and light so I never feel the need to disable it when gaming etc.
nunjabusiness
Avast here on a number of Win7 machines. No noticeable slowdowns. I am trying out Panda's new cloud AV on all my virtual machines though. Seems OK so far.
OOOOOOOO
I use Avast now ... blisteringly fast ... nothing slows performance at all ... but before ... I used McAfee's new beta version of the Antivirus etc ... My . God . How . Slow . Can . One . App . Be! Even opening a freaking folder took like 5 seconds!!!! Anything took longer than normal. Avast kicks it's ass :)

MidnightDevil
Avira here too, so far so good, didn't notice any performance slowdowns. Im willing to try other ones tho :)
BeerFan
Similar experience here... installing AVG 8.5 on builds 7127 and 7100 caused massive slowdowns and jerkiness, even after several restarts. Uninstalling it fixed the problems immediately on both builds. AVG 7 was great, but it seems like they've taken a couple steps backwards with the recent 8.x versions. Avast seems like the best free option at the moment.

I used AVG and it didnt stop virus from infecting the PC, i had a real bad experience and i tell everyone who his using AVG to try another AV and scan for virus :)
+KibosJ Subscriber² Posted June 1, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted June 1, 2009 Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 Technical Release. Neoauld
avira free here, no noticable performance difference and i think the only better AV is kaspersky..which costs alot
goatsniffer
I'm still using NOD32 2.7. No noticeable slowdowns, but I've been getting a number of false positives lately. I hope ESET isn't try to force upgrades by hurting functionality of their legacy products (which I paid for).
