BrY
So I figured out the instant shut off is because the video card/motherboard of the laptop shuts down. Can someone inform me about this- the laptop doesn't overheat when placed on a desk in the same room temperature. But at first while I was trying to enjoy the game on my bed with the laptop angled (the screen can push down all the back so its same angle as the keyboard) and rested on my legs. The main vent is on the leftside back panel, and never blocked when I'm using it in bed. So my question is- from the fact that the game works flawlessly when the laptop is placed on a desk, so why is it overheating? Is it the angle i'm in that makes the video card/motherboard more sensitive to heat? That doesn't make sense because when i play in bed the vents on the bottom is also clear when I use it lying on bed. Its a small Sony SZ laptop.. which you could bend the screen all the way back, with GeforceGO 7400. I'm not blocking the vents. So would it be the angle I have it at, which is straight up like the back at highest angle and the front on the lowest against my spreaded legs (which also unblocks the bottom vent)s. I want to know more info and the right diagnosis of what I mentioned. Which is the problem thats causing overheating. I want some tips to figure out how to play the game while laying in the bed. Any feedback welcome. Thanks. Oh and I did upgrade to the latest WHQL 185.85 drivers, so maybe I need a driver that tackles the fan issue, when playing a game it blows, but maybe theres a way to make it blow harder, so the internal system is happy?! greenwizard88
Seriously, I think we should help the guy figure out why the illegal software doesn't work with the beta OS. ;)
BrY
It wasn't the game's fault apparently. I just have overheating problems in Win7, so this post applies to it being posted on here. Will someone just input me with the information I posted, and offer any suggestions? Thanks. Just keep it simple geez!
9UnknownMen
Go7400 Turbocache? Oh boy, I have a Dell M1210 with that sucker and had the same issues. HP, Dell and Sony put them in the small notebooks thinking they would be fine thermally. If you goto the support sites you'll see that these ticking timebombs. I've had 3 of them crap out on me and before they died they all exhibited the same issues. Usually it'll start with driver failing and recovering, then aero and DWM will act up before the screen starts randomly artifacting and finally it doesn't POST after boot. You'll need to invest in a laptop cooler or stand if you intend to any GPU intensive tasks and clean out the vents regularly. I use a Dell Utility called I8lFanGUI to monitor the temps from the system tray and set condition's to trigger the fans to high when gaming or publishing. The OEMs always set the fan triggers low so that there isn't too much noise but that's exactly the problem.
Thunderbuck
...when playing a game it blows, but maybe theres a way to make it blow harder... ROFLMAO... Oh, dude... where to start? Listen to me CAREFULLY: do NOT take the laptop to bed with you! Get one of those (admittedly dorky) lapdesk thingies, at the very least. Even of you think you're giving it sufficient airflow, trust me, you aren't. And even if by some miracle you weren't impeding airflow somehow, if you rest it on blankets you're insulating the bottom and holding in heat anyway. Do not rest an operating laptop on blankets/sheets/towels or any other form of cloth. K?
