Monotremata
Ok Ive posted on here before about this and got the response that it was a known networking bug but apparently they still havent fixed it... At work our main domain controllers are both still Win 2000. When we login, the active directory policy maps a couple file shares for us as our G, H and T drives. Win 7 doesnt do any of this when I log in. Sure it uses my domain account for login and whatnot but I have to keep a script on my desktop and run it everytime I log in to add my network file shares that we keep our work on. Joining the domain is no problem, and when I go to login I even see the welcome message that pops up with our contact info for support, etc, etc.. Is Windows 7 just NOT going to work with a Windows 2000 domain controller as far as policy goes? If so, is there a way to force it to authenticate against another domain controller?? We have a third one thats been in 'testing' for years now (dont ask our server guy is partially retarded and loves his job security) thats running Windows 2003. Can I make my workstation use this one specifically??
DaveJukes
WMI filters on the GPO maybe. Needs to have the win7 in it to apply. What does gpresult tell you? Dave
Monotremata
Damn this is why I hate making posts on fridays because I forget them when I get back to work monday haha! Umm ok what part of gpresult?? I ran it with gpresult /S compname /R so what part should I be looking at? Its wierd I just noticed that I even get the two default IE shortcuts to our intranet and our work order system put in my Favorites when I log in too and it definitely runs my start script I put on the AD server for my particular account (Im about to just put the policy mapped drives in there to be done with it) but not the directories that are specified by the policy.. There is the one spot that says 'following GPOs were not applied because they were filtered out' and the results are: Local Group Policy Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) Im assuming that means nothings being blocked or filtered?? I can see it says Group Policy Applied From and has the right server name in there.. EDIT: Ok I just jumped on the ADC and checked around in the Policy editor.. I dont get it, I see the User Logon stuff, and I found where it lists the batch file that runs whenever a user logs in. Other then the 'net send 'welcome to our domain' message I removed, this is the SAME script that I have locally that I run to get my drive mappings in place. Wont pull it from the ADC but it runs just fine on its own or in my Startup folder.. Edited June 8, 2009 by Monotremata
Monotremata
In case anyone was actually watching this finally solved the problem. Discovered the same thing FINALLY over at the technet forums. Apparently you have to add a registry key enabling linked connections. http://windowsconnected.com/blogs/joshs_bl...onnections.aspx I did it yesterday morning, rebooted and finally the policy applied and there were my mapped drives! Looks like Windows 7 just might be ready for us to migrate to when it hits!
