Eric Veteran Posted May 26, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 26, 2009 I have a crappy Gateway Celeron 400 with 512MB of RAM.. I'm going to try setting it up as a media extender. :)
+Warwagon MVC Posted May 26, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted May 26, 2009 I'm surprised you got 512 MB RAM.It installed about as fast as WinXP does on some machines on What machine a P Pro 200? A machine would have to be REALLY old for XP to take 50 mins to install.
TAZMINATOR
I'm surprised you got 512 MB RAM.I didn't see a machine with that much RAM until 2003 with WinXP. I know Win2000 is like the fastest OS ever with that much RAM. Wow, that was amazing! It installed about as fast as WinXP does on some machines and behaves as fast as Vista RC1/2 does in my testing in a virtual machine with 512 MB RAM. I have an old computer with lot of ram, it has Win2000 ... it's really fast. I have 350mhz and 866mhz computers somewhere. I might install win7 on 866mhz computer. I also have very old computers that are less than 350mhz... The Evil Overlord 1 Share

+Warwagon MVC Posted May 26, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) Hey, pls check if GTA 4 runs fine on this machine with windows 7 installed ;) Don't tempt me  A little funny fact about that video. I recorded the install in the afternoon. The computer I originally recorded the intro with was a completely different piece of crap than I did the actual install of windows 7 with. So I never had an intro recorded with that computer. So the intro was actually recorded last. You'll notice in the blinds that during the intro its dark and during the install there is light shinning through. Thats also why the computer all the sudden turns quiet during the install. Because then it had the graphics card that vista didn't detect. So during the into it still had the one that had the really bad artifacts. I recorded the intro on a Friday night when I just got done walking home from the bars down town (26 min walk 1 direction) had about 9 beers. Could ya tell? Edited May 26, 2009 by warwagon

Ironman273
Wow, that got me thinking about my old Toshiba Portege 4010 I have laying around. I basically keep it updated with ubuntu but I decided to try a Windows 7 install. It worked great! I am so amazed at how well it runs on old hardware. It detected the video card as standard VGA but it is a Trident so I'm not sure drivers would be any better. Amazingly I got a 1.0 on my video capabilities. :omg: The specs on the laptop are: Pentium III-M 933 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 30 GB HDD, 1024x768 XGA screen connected to a Trident CyberBlade XP AGP 4x with a whopping 16Mb of shared memory. The 2 things 7 didn't detect were the sound card and SD card reader. Installed the drivers for them and everything is working fine.

GreenMartian
I would try this on my old IBM Aptiva with a Pentium 150 MHz CPU... but let's just say that it struggled to run Windows Me. Oh and the size of the Windows 7 disc is already larger than the entire hard drive itself. :rofl:Amusing video nonetheless. :D Oooh I had one of those (as an upgrade to an even older IBM AT). Came with a whopping 64 MB of RAM, too. Later upgraded to 96MB. Don't think we can stick 512 megs in it...
