Subject Delta
Ok, seriously why the hell is the Vista Codec pack filtered? I can understand the reasoning for the K L**e pack, but the Vista Codec pack is completely and totally made up from Free and Open Source software. There is NO NEED whatsoever for it to be filtered out. I can understand why you don't want warez on this site, but to filter something that is totally free and contains no warez is above and beyond reasonable. The fact that someone has even gone to the lengths to filter S**rk007 tells me that they (apparently) thought they knew what they where doing. The Vista codec pack is NOT WAREZ. Having it filtered is just ludicrous.
O.G
There's a warez filter? How would that work exactly, not that great I imagine unless there's a room full of trained chimps scouring the pirate bay and entering every torrent name into a database. Rob Veteran Posted May 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 23, 2009 I know that in the past, the Vista Codec Package did include components that were infringing on the rights of other companies. It may be that the situation has changed, and we'll look into it. However I'd advise you not to get so aggressive in your posting; it doesn't encourage us to view your unspoken request in a positive light. Subject Delta
Sorry, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Also, I have been using VCP since its initial release and I don't recall it ever having anything illegal in it :/
Rob Veteran Posted May 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 23, 2009 To my knowledge, it used to redistribute Quicktime components, whereas now they don't. We'll look into it, as I said, but please - our job's difficult enough as it is, be polite in your requests instead of coming in all guns blazing. Subject Delta
I apologise for the tone of my post. And yes, If you are referring to QT Lite it is no longer included, Distributed, or Promoted by the creator of VCP.
John S. Veteran Posted May 24, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 24, 2009 A quick google shows it still has RealMedia components...that would make it warez since that is a proprietary codec.
Subject Delta
No it doesn't, at least the modern versions don't. All real media decoding is now done through FFDshow, through the inclusion of a real media splitter. This is a third party splitter compatible with Directshow applications, it is not the same warez version included with Real Alternitive, with which you are evidently getting it confused. Shipping proprietary codecs = illegal Decoding them through other means = totally legal VCP also decodes WMV, Quicktime, MP3, WMA, and by your argument it could also be considered warez just because it decodes them as well. Also, FYI Real don't actually include a Directshow compatible splitter with their software, they only allow it to be decoded internally in Real1Player Actually scrap that. Using his Paypal Donate Link you can actually get his email address and contact him directly so that he can tell you what I have already told you.
