[Help]How to find out version # of DVD

Recommended Posts

I am cleaning up my cd/dvd drawer and am finding quite a few CDs and DVDs that I have not written anything on. A few of them have Windows 7 builds but I am trying to find out what build number they are so I know if I need to just trash them or not.

Anyone know how I can find out what build number a DVD is? Is there a file somewhere in the contents that will tell me?

You could open up properties for setup.exe, and then check the details tab ^^

mine says 7127, so I'd assume it would tell you the build number

oh btw, DVD-RW/USB flash drives rocks!

I installed it from a USB drive originally, but then needed to use the flash drive for file transfers at work one day and had to delete the installation.. I will reinstall it back on the flash drive eventually.. lmao.

use dism /Get-WIMInfo to get details which version it is.

You can also open the install.wim with 7zip and look at the xml file you see there

I usually write the version number on blank dvd for OS with black marker. So I would know which version I want to re-install.

lol 99% of the time I do that also.. Don't know why I didn't with these, unless my kids had my black marker at the time or something.
