XIInator
I believe Windows 7 is bugged with the file managing.... it's kind of frustrating.... For one, when I rename a file, it gives me an error saying that it cannot include characters * /\ etc. However, NONE of those characters are in the file name, so I don't know why it is giving me the error message. After a second try it renames the file, but it's kind of annoying to rename a file twice and getting an error message each time. Another thing with the file management is when I was trying to organize my photos, I tried deleting folders, but it would insist that a file is in use. I would have to wait about 5 minutes to delete it. Sometimes it won't even let me rename folders right away, thus making the task difficult. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas? Thanks! dcoaster
Is this a clean install without any other programs? If not, it may be conflicting with an incompatible program.
XIInator
Is this a clean install without any other programs? If not, it may be conflicting with an incompatible program. It is a clean install of Windows 7 RC Build 7100 64bit from Microsoft.com. As far as the software, I kinda doubt any would "interfere" like that for some reason, especially the character one... but I could list them if needed. In regards to the not being able to delete folders right away issue, it is my guess that windows is busy trying to make thumbnails or indexing information or whatever.... sometimes it comes up with "cannot delete file thumbnails.db" thing... Subject Delta
Have you recently, or ever in the past spilt any liquid on your keyboard? Sometimes that can make it act erratically.
MarkusDarkus
Try wholockme and see if it works on Win7. This will tell you if any processes are actually locking the files or folders.
Death Blade
yeah, that could cause short circuits which lead to the keyboard sending a different signal
XIInator
hey sorry it took a while to respond.... wholockme does not work on 7, sadly... and no I have not spilt anything on the keyboard... these files I am managing over the network (wired at 100mbps), maybe the fact that it is networked and slow... or the fact that it is off a slower win2k3 server machine... I'm not sure.... any other ideas?
Gary2MBz
Sorry to be taking the topic away but I remember back when it was 7000 being publicized, there was this bug where you rename any desktop icon or file and hitting enter would make it disappear. Even up to 7100 it rarely happens but it does happen. Navigating to the desktop folder, you would have to create a new file or refresh the folder until the renamed icon comes. Sadly Unlocker hasn't been updated either to support 7, that would have given a better explanation.
Rookas
I'm constantly having this problem. I have a lot of music files and I move them around/rename them quite a bit. I'm constantly getting the 'file in use' message when it's not in use. I'll check my running processes and kill anything media related, but i think the files are just getting stuck. It's a real pain. Oh, I've never gotten the 'illegal characters' error, just the file in use problem.
