GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony (second DLC episode) announced

Recommended Posts

Word is it sold around 1 million copies which isn't bad, but not exactly tons compared to GTA4 selling 13/14 million copies.

14 Million copies, isn't that counting all platforms?

Well the big uproar presented over at Kotaku is how MS will let this one slip by. They absolutely will not let you have anything homosexual in your bio, gamertag, etc. but apparently "********* is playing GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony" is acceptable. Talk about double standards.

Sadly I wish I had never sold my game after accidentally deleting my save file which had a 97% completion on it. :( So I guess I'm in the same boat as the PS3 owners this time, missing the DLC.

Yeah but all the fuss was how exclusive DLC would tip the balance heavily in favour of the 360 so I can only assume such claims means it sold more on the 360?

Anyone have the PS3:360 split?

Even if it's 50:50 that's 6-7 million GTA4 players, only 1 million of them buying the DLC.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City delivers two games on one disc - the all-new episode The Ballad of Gay Tony and the first episode, The Lost and Damned - together on disc for the first time - for Xbox 360 for $39.99 and will not require a copy of the original Grand Theft Auto IV to play.

.. ;)

That's a very good point, double standards indeed.

Also, surely you won't need a 100% completion save if you can purchase the disc version without needing GTA IV?

I heard 60-40% and it's funny, certain retail games have had much lower sales overall with a much, much lower attachment rate and you deemed those okay, yet this isn't impressive - Hmmm

Over 1 million sold for DLC is impressive imo.

It's GTA, I expected better sales, what can I say. It's one of the most popular franchises around.

I suspect going digital only didn't help and that releasing these episodes on a disc bundle separately will fair well. Lots of people who played GTA4 probably didn't complete it and therefore ignored the DLC.

Not to mention they probably planned to bundle the two together from the beginning as a way to push more sales. It wouldn't make sense not to do so. I doubt its any reaction to what the sales have been so far.

Yeah, when both episodes are released, physical copies are released and they pull out all their cards to push the DLC I expect to see some impressive sales figures.

No, you don't understand. I was so frustrated about losing my save file I sold the game a week later. Just the fact that I was left with a save file of practically nothing meaning I would have to go through the whole game again left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Ohh... you deleted the save file and THEN sold the game. I thought you had sold the game, and then accidentally deleted the save file :p Well, that's understandable.

But still, considering TLAD and TBGT are brand new stories, surely it won't feel like a chore playing them?

Well no it wouldn't but I would want to play them after gaining things you get later on throughout the game. I just didn't want to try them while being gimped.

Well you start from the bottom in those episodes, it's not like having completed the main game gives you any advantage? ( Besides knowing the map etc. )

Wow, I wish I hadn't made those quick assumptions back then. They are so obvious, I really don't know why I thought you would stay the same character. Biggest "doh!" I have had in a while. Still doesn't make up for not having the disc though. :(

Nice an openly gay title. Wonder if it,ll promote a "im not buying that its gay" in the under 18`s lol. That or a gay rights movement will condemn it and then the Daily mail will strike!

Eh. GTA has been condemned for just about everything by now. I don't think this will even create a ripple :p

Only when it comes to the mission that your guy betrays his boss for a new boss and blasts him off his float in Liberty City's 1st Annual Gay Pride parade.

Lol!! Got the e-mail from Rockstar Propaganda this morning, thought it was a joke at first.

The idea sounds pretty funny. I wonder how many homophobes play GTA IV.
