Left 4 Dead mic question

Recommended Posts

I have a USB headset with mic, when I plug it in it creates a separate input/output audio device as most USB headsets do. When I use Ventrilo, I can set it to use the USB sound devices, while leaving my internal sound card as the default device. This lets me still hear all game sounds out of my sound system, while all voice is played through my headset.

Does anyone know if this is possible with Left 4 Dead or any source games? I have been able to get the USB mic to work, but the voice sounds from my teammates still play through the speakers, I have not been able to find any setting to change it.

I don't think it's possible. Ventrilo allows you to select an input/output device. Unfortunately, Left 4 Dead doesn't let you choose your input/output device. It goes by whatever is set as the default in Windows. I'll search around but I doubt I'll find anything.

If you set the headset mic as default in windows, it should pick that up as the mic. As long as you leave the speakers on default as well it should use those too.

Assuming that works, it would only be possible in Windows Vista. Nonetheless, I'll test it myself when I get the chance.
