Yusuf M. Veteran Posted May 27, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 27, 2009 The developers of popular Half-Life mod Natural Selection are preparing to release standalone sequel Natural Selection 2 this year via Steam, and we've got the exclusive teaser trailer to prove it. SOURCE: Kotaku Head on over to Kotaku and watch the teaser trailer. Currently, the game is set for a Fall 2009 release date. It's a stand-alone sequel to Natural Selection, a mod for Half-Life released in late-2002. Have more questions? Head on over to the game website's FAQ. This is exciting news. I used to play Natural Selection with my friends and it's a great game. Click here if you're interested in playing it. All you need is Half-Life 1. Nagisan
WOW Finally.. They have been working on this for so long now. They they did a lot of work on doing this game on the Source engine, but after a few months worth of development they scrapped that and basically started over on their own engine. Looks fantastic....played NS for nearly 4 years.....2nd most played game after Diablo II for me....hopefully NS2 lives up to that.

I hope so. According to Wikipedia, it's being developed by the same people that developed Natural Selection. As for the game engine, it better be better than the Source engine. And yes, that came out weird.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted May 29, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 29, 2009 I'm so tempted to pre-order Natural Selection 2. The standard edition costs $19.95 and the special edition is $39.95. The former offers you full access to the game as well as the beta whereas the latter offers you the same thing plus first access to the alpha. Also, you get a special "all black marine armour" when you play online. Perhaps I should wait for some gameplay videos before spending money on this game. Dashel
I can't wait. Figure I'll get the SE version cause I always felt bad for not becoming a Constellation member, given the absurd amount of time I played the first one. Alpha access is a plus, I loved the 'early' days where it was like playing Space Hulk. Edited June 1, 2009 by Dashel
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 1, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 1, 2009 I just watched a trailer for the original Natural Selection and it brought back so many good memories. I think I might even install it again for old time's sake. You can watch the trailer here. Keep in mind, that's what they managed to do with the GoldSrc engine which powers Half-Life and Counter-Strike 1.6 as well as other games. Imagine what they could do with a more advanced game engine with better visuals. Anyway, I was browsing around the Natural Selection 2 website and I found a link to this page which features two videos. The first video dates back to December 2006 and the second one dates back to October 2008. The second video shows off the technology used in Natural Selection 2. So far, it looks great. I'm sure it looks even better now and I can't wait for them to release a trailer.

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 4, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 4, 2009 I just realized that the teaser footage was filmed entirely in-engine. Wow!
deletedxyz
I just realized that the teaser footage was filmed entirely in-engine. Wow! That is very impressive. I never played the first NS but this looks great (even though I'm not a fan of horror/alien games).
