Vandalsquad
I've tried everything to get this issues resolved before I revert back to Vista since I love windows 7 so much, but these issues are to big to ignore any longer so im hoping someone here can help me out you'ld be a life saver. Any time im playing an Mp3 file or AVI, it plays back for a few seconds then stops, then plays then stops... This also happens when streaming to my 360. which what I mainly use my PC for. Im running a DELL optiplex 740, AMD64 X2 4600+ 3GB DDR2 Radeon X1300/1550 Series. Not sure exactly just going off device manager. All files on a 500gb external Western Digital mybook. Hopefully someone has some idea? Cheers... :(

Should of stated, ive downloaded and installed the latest drivers. I assume my USB controller drivers are with my motherboard drivers which have been done already. Ive tried up grading my bios from 1.1.3 to 2.2.2 but when installing it asks for a admin password (this is Dell Bios Upgrade) which I wouldnt have a clue to since my bios isnt password protected. Pikey
Perhaps you should re-install from a new disk .. burn the ISO at a lower speed if possible.

I simply was offering a plausable direction to remidy the issue. I assumed nothing of what patch he needs or doesn't need I simply extended information. It is apparent that that patch applied to build 7000 as indicated in that thread of that forum I linked to. It was also indicated later down the thread that it was sent out via Windows Update. (Read the complete Threads of Relevent Topics Before Posting coments like this.) I was being helpful, how was anything you posted being helpful? Please don't post if you have nothing useful to contribute.

First you could have asked him what build of windows 7 he was running. and at this point i am sure anyone who is running windows 7 has by now upgraded to the RC at least most of us

Well the password could be blank or perhaps Dell as that is their bios backdoor. It does sound like a data streaming issue if you are properly driver'd and codec'd up. Have you tried taking some strain off of the HDD? Disabling indexing and media shares and the like? Since the HDD is external you should remove Windows 7 from the equation if at all possible to see if it's a hardware issue with the drive itself that just happened to pop up now. Heck it could always be the cable. (can't tell you how many times I've seen people run around re-purchasing expensive hardware only to find out that it was a $5 cable) Also is Windows 7 installed on the external HDD or on internal storage?
