Many things take longer in "7"....

Recommended Posts

In windows explorer...task bar lacks info.

In windows explorer...left pane constantly closes(wtf is up with that)

Start menu...requires more clicks to get to the same place.

Usb...always gets the popup, regardless of how many times it's set.

Control panel.....wtf..?? Items are listed in a different order each time it's opened...are these people out of their freakin' minds...???

Syre...7 is snappy and all, but oh so many things are less simple than in XP....making 7 a freakin turkey, imho.

I do applaud MS for listening to what people wanted in an os.....HOWEVER, they should have gone to normal folk, and not to the knobs, which has resulted in a step backward...despite their best efforts.

As far as the USB problem, I can confirm I have had that more than once.

Regarding the rest, you will need to explain exactly what you mean by more clicks in the start menu and suchlike.

I do not seem to suffer from the things you are suffering from, the control panel does not change, the left panel never closes.

BTW it does not get you anywhere by insulting the people they are listening to.

Try using the Search bar more as it is more quicker. They want people to adapt to newer methods of starting apps than the old Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Word. With win7, you just type "Wo" into the search bar in the start menu and Word comes up in the results. That's 2 clicks (to click start and to click the Word result to start Word) and even if you frequent it, it will come up in the start menu as "default".

and for the people who disable the search ? ;) , but well you could say , pin the program to the start menu or to the taskbar ( since it would also avoid the extra clicks ( or even move the shortcut to desktop

but like the 2nd poster , my control panel doesnt change ( icons are all the same and for the left panel , strange it stays always up ( only thing i can complain its the time it takes to remove shared computers from the network - specially when the computers were turned off and they still show after 2 hours on the network ( while funny enough they do disappear from the Homegroup faster )

the usb well that might be only for pens/ external hdd , since having mouse/keyboard as usb , headphones and joystick they do not appear ( the only time i had the popup was when i changed my sata to AHCI ( and well it put 1 HDD as scsi and the old HDD as a usb hdd - fixed with the latest nvdia drivers )

The search bar is useless to me, having fast access to it doesn't make anything better

None of this happens here. Especially the last one sounds very strange. Are you sure your W7 is "clean"? Where did you download it? What version are you using exactly.

Left panel refers to windows explorer.

Click on anything on the left...then continue in the right...the left closes up(un-expands)

Try hitting the Winkey and then start typing the first two or three letters of the application you need. I can open any program, music file, picture or document in a second that way. You can not do that through navigation on any system.

Try it first before you knock it. It made me a convert of search and I used to disable the indexing and search function because "I knew where my files were". You can streamline search to only the folders you keep documents which drastically reduces indexing time and frequency. You can also install appropriate ifilters and search for the contents in pictures, documents, music, email and even zip, rar and executable files.

Edit:

@OP: Hit the Winkey and select the control panel. Once open, use the search bar at the top of the window and start typing the name of the feature you need. The CP will display your choices and select the appropriate one. This is much faster than navigating through the control panel as this filters the results and saves you time looking for something.

All these complaints are so fixable, you can change everything to your liking through the view options in Explorer. The start menu is customizable also, I could get to my documents and my computer in the same amount of speed as I could in Vista or XP.

As the USB problem goes, I'm sure a simple Google search could fix everything.

I agree. A good example of this is system restore. In windows XP you open system restore and you can restore or create a restore point. In vista and Windows 7 you open system restore and all you can do is restore. To actually create a restore point you have to go to system properties / and click "Create". I've always thought that was one of the most retarded places to put things.

Example: while having Internet Explorer open and multiple Live Messenger windows open the same time everything takes longer. Im browsing the internet and I get a message from someone on msn, two clicks to see what it is. 2 mins later someone else sends a msg, 2 clicks again and it goes on and on and on. In my opinion everything takes twice as long with this new taskbar, it hasn't changed anything other than not utilizing the space provided properly.

Then change the taskbar to your liking. There are options available in the shell to tune it as you wish.

On the navigation pane in Windows Explorer right click and choose the option you want so that the folder tree will stay open.

Almost all actions require one single click in the Start Menu. If not pin that item to the Start menu (or Taskbar). Tip: hold down mouse button when you are on the Start orb and release the button on the item you want = 1 click!

This is because Vista and 7 create restore points automatically (called Shadow Copy).

Hover over the Taskbar item to open the preview or use ALT+Tab or choose not to group items in the Taskbar.

But what was wrong with leaving it where it was?

Apple and Microsoft and apple exceptionally are bad about moving a button to a new spot and adding it to its list of 400+ new features.

LOL, I wonder how many "new features" like this will be in Snow Leopard!

I don't need to come in here and remind everyone that you're still running a beta...

Do I?

You're complaining about an unpolished build.

Of course things are going to take more time. :|

Surely, I don't need to point out to you that it is not a beta any more.

Huh? What are you on about? The taskbar button relating to the new message flashes. All you do is click on that flashing button once to show/open the window.
