Frank
I installed 7 RC on a old Compaq SR1811NX. I tried to run the WEI and I get the following error. I originally tried to run it on the integrated Express 200 video card but I got an error. I researched the error and found that some users fixed it by deleting the "DataStore" folder. I tried to do this and no dice. I then installed a X300 PCI-E card and I still got the attached error. I tried finding more information listed in the EventLog but I could not. Any idea on how to fix this?
Frank
I just tried to run on a nVidia 7800Gt that I had laying around thinking it may be a problem with the ATI driver and I got a similar message and it could not complete.
ozgeek
Maybe bad drivers. (can't communicate with the WEI checker) Try reinstalling or using another version of drivers.
Frank
Maybe bad drivers. (can't communicate with the WEI checker) Try reinstalling or using another version of drivers. This is what I thought, but I switched from a ATI product to a nVidia product and still got the same results.

Ferret
Thats understandable. I can't think of the name of it, but isn't there some software that will remove all remnants of old drivers ?
jamesVault
Did you use a registry cleaner? ccleaner damages WEI. Don't use ccleaner!
UncleSpellbinder
Did you use a registry cleaner? ccleaner damages WEI. Don't use ccleaner! I use Ccleaner all the time. I've used it since the public beta and in all builds since. Currently running official RC (64-bit). NEVER had any issues at all with Ccleaner screwing anything up in Windows 7. Frank
I think I might have found the issue. I had a coworker building a new machine and he was experiencing the same problem. He updated the chipset drivers (even though everything looked find in device manager) and it resolved his issue. The machine does not have drivers for Windows 7 (of course) but I am going to try and download/install the chipset drivers from Vista to see if that makes a difference.
