MarkusJ
Anyone think that Microsoft Tinker will return as the default games on Windows 7? I tried Windows Vista Ultimate again, downloaded the extra's. Tinker was so cool and fun to play.. haha :)
Preppy Veteran Posted May 30, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 30, 2009 Naw, it was a Vista Ultimate Extra only. :)
MarkusJ
I actually think, how hard can it be to add that feature to 7? There have been none new games since XP (sorry if I'm failing)
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted May 30, 2009 MVC Share Posted May 30, 2009 Does the game work if you copy it across from Vista? I?ll have to give that a try next time I?m on my Laptop.

Raa
Tinker doesn't work by direct copying, no. However if you google "Tinker on XP" you might find some... interesting results. :)

br0adband
I grabbed the CAB files that install Tinker from Microsoft (the x86 and x64, and I'm using Windows 7 x64 7127 at the moment), extracted the files (that was interesting as the command line switches for the "expand" command are somewhat picky), installed DirectX 9.0c as it's required, then created the directories in the Program Files (using the x64 version, remember)and copied the necessary files as required. Tried it the first time, complained about it not being Vista Ultimate. So re-ran it in Compatibility Mode for Vista SP1 and wham, there she blows, no issues. Now I can get it working on the Wife's machine because she loved it when she was using Vista. It's a 5 minute "hack" job of sorts, but it works. This post over at MSFN helped and was instrumental. Everything someone would need is there (and the CAB files are freely provided by Microsoft itself sooo... and since Tinker was "free"... well, you figure it out): http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...amp;mode=linear
